Here is my Asian Black sugarcane. I chopped back all the older canes that were about 15 feet. The tallest canes are now about 12 feet tall with about 7 feet of usable sweet cane. Sure, I can give you a few cuttings. Pm me for details.

The thickest mine get is about 2 inches. My sugarcane in pots is much thinner. I actually prefer the thinner canes because I don't have to cut them in half before running them through my juicer. For peeling and chewing, the thicker canes are preferable.

Here's a rare one I'm looking for. It's a Hawaiian heirloom Hilo sugarcane

Anywhere I look, it's either out of stock or going for a lot on eBay.

I found a guy that has it in the Palmtalk forum, but he never responded back to my message :(

I got rid of that variety last year. It grows thigh but the segments are like barrels so it's very difficult to clean and cut. The Asian Black also tasted better. I posted pictures on one of the sugarcane threads, maybe the sugarcane juicer thread?

ARS-GRIN maintains a collection of some 500 Saccharum accessions. Most of these are in the Miami location, and many are stored as seed in the National Seed Storage laboratory (NSSL). Unfortunately for some reason only a small number seem to be currently available for request:

What an absolutely beautiful variety of sugarcane!!! Has anyone been able to find these cuttings? Also haven't seen a sugarcane post in the months I've been on here so I wanted to revive this post & see who grow sugarcane & what types! I've purchased Asian Black & a Florida Red(from palmtreeLuke). & found a different Florida red & point of java varieties which I'm currently growing.

that buddah belly cane comes from Papua New guinea but is cultivated in Hawaii as 'HĀPAI '  which translates to 'preganant'. referring to the swollen internodes.

very ornamental looking. we are growing some in our collection.

I wanting to try growing a chewing variety of sugarcane but I cannot find a clear list of which varieties are best for each use.  Then I would like to purchase a good chewing variety because this thread is very interesting.

Don't think you'll find much of a list for each use.. As far as best, that is also subject to each persons point of view. I think the only ones not good as a chewing or juicing cane are the commercial varieties used for sugar production. Palmtreeluke's GreenPlanetFarms.com has some great chewing/juicing varieties!!

Thanks Serg. I looked at the list of greenplantfarm but wasn't sure if they were all good for chewing. Thanks for the information. I look forward to to trying it. Greg

Lisar, they ship only to USA. Anybody know any company that sends this species to Europe and rest of the world?

Here a Variety viewer for sugarcane I recently uploaded. We revised the site realized with so many varieties a need a way to highlight the main aspects of each type of cane. This list will expand and better photos will be taken this season as the cane starts to mature.

I'm sure it's not the easiest Sugar Cane to peel. But, it's so beautiful that it's probably worth having, IMO; now I'm also looking for it.

Tried reaching out for cuttings with no luck. Kens Nursery seems to be the only place to get them right now.

They are not very good for eating. Very hard fibre.
