One of my quenepa seedlings flowered for the first time recently. It appears to have female flowers and I'm not sure but looks like it may have set fruit already, maybe someone else familiar could let me know what they think?

Can't wait to see what I get in the genetic lottery with this one.

One problem with white sapote in hot tropics is they are not fond of intense heat but they want full sun, so I feel you have to make a compromise growing it in hotter areas.

tell you what dry some leaves and fruit so if it all looks like this then you got it.
Thank you for the replies and pictures I haven't seen before. I think the Talisia Cerasina is the closest match out of those fruits and it is apparently a very variable species, but maybe sylvatica is variable too. I think the growth habit and flowers are still more like sylvatica even though cerasina is somewhat similar. All of my sylvatica trees are unbranching, growing straight up with only leaves at the top. Inflorescence also shoots straight up from the top.

One of my talisia sylvatica flowered and fruited this year. I guess this suggests they are monoecious btw.

The problem I have is this fruit looks nothing like talisia sylvatica pictures I've seen, or any type of talisia or melicoccus in literature or online. The growth and flowering habit seem to be definitively sylvatica, but the fruit shape is way off, in fact the opposite shape it should be.

I know there's some slight variation in the shape from the old drawing in the literature and the couple different photos we have online. Just wondering if anyone else has gotten fruit or has seen any talisia fruit look like this?

There is a camp that says sunlight does help with graft healing and success chance, and I personally go by this philosophy.

I often see those fungus spots on sugar apple or atemoya after herbicide use. Although it would be a little strange for you to have herbicide damage on a potted tree, unless it rooted through the pot to the ground underneath.

Yea they are quite variable but they can be quite excellent quality.

Other puerto rican varieties that I cant find any info on but are intriguing to me are one: Martinez, which Dr. Brunner says is one of the best quality cultivars.
Also Tuna and Cesar Ramos, which he says are great yielding cultivars.

I'd like to know how regular/productive is martinez, and maybe a quality description, and also how good quality are the productive varieties Tuna and Cesar Ramos.

Sasa is out of the consideration because from my account and from others it is shy/irregular bearing. It is the best in quality in imo.
The qualities I'm most interested in are how free stone it is, sweetness and pulp content, in that order.

I know I'm reviving this old thread but my inquiry is directly related.

I know there are so many cultivars existing or being selected in puerto rico or even dominican republic that are unknown to the outside world. I was wondering if anyone has any insight on some of these lesser known or newer varieties in puerto rico or elsewhere?

Aņasco is one I'm interested in hearing more about, specifically how free stone it is and commercial viability. Overall I'm looking for varieties worthy of commercial outplanting of excellent quality.

I wanted to update that I got the seeds, they were the right species and they have already sprouted after softening the hard seeds before planting with hot water.

Younghans gold has much better production imo. I had my redlands white sapote first and it did produce fruit on it's own. I don't think adding the younghans gold tree has increased the pollination by any appreciable amount so far.

They finally just send me a shipped notification and tracking for my order, and they indeed added the phyto certificate I requested. So good on them. Maybe they saw my post here and got it done lol.

Has anyone successfully ordered from them recently?

I made an order about a month and a half ago, and I immediately tried to change my order the same day because I forgot to add phyto certificates. Well they initially responded to me the first time but haven't responded the many email I've sent afterwards.
They've taken a bunch of my money but can't even respond to a single email for over a month. I really don't recommend this company for seeds.

Any recommendations on how to get my money back with this German company when I live in the United states?

There's a lot of fruit that I need to try that I'm sure would change this list.

The Durian trees remain. The Lansium will be replanted once the marcotts we prepared from Bill Whitman's original 'Conception' are ready for planting. I will personally be helping with this planting alongside other RFCI Miami members.

The Rare Fruit Council Int'l. (RFCI), Miami will be more actively involved volunteering in the "Whitman Pavilion", at the request of Angela Whitman who aside from being a benefactor sits on the board of directors of Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden.

The Whitman fruit pavilion, that's the greenhouse I was talking about  ;D

Wasn't the langsat tree the conception variety already? I remember the side of the tree that got the most light was getting burned up, although it's been a few years since I've been there. They really don't like sunlight until they get massive it seems. I'm guessing the tree died?
