I wanted to graft alot lower but the sunburn on the trunk was too severe and the bark was lifting/flaky
Will see how these go.

Nice, good luck
Thannks. Hopefully the weather clears up soon. I need to paint the trunk and i'm sure this rain isn't so great on it...

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Pummelo in container?
« on: March 16, 2020, 03:33:02 PM »
It seems you can *definitely* fruit grafted pummelo in a container.   My scraggly chandler pummelo that nearly died a few times made its first full size fruit.  It was delicious.  Not anything like I was expecting from store bought pummelos which are usually dry flesh, this was extremely juicy but still sweet despite not coloring up

and because I can't resist MSPaint, here's how the whole tree/container/fruit looked together while it was hanging

Congrats.
My in ground tree produced more pommello than I could possibly eat. The tree is only a few years old to my knowledge and I get wheelbarrows full. They start flowering usually in march and I harvest fully ripe from the tree as early as january but I recently harvested the last few on my tree before beheading it. They were perfect. Though pomello isn't a fruit I want to keep (Wife and I don't enjoy them that much) it is a nice fruit. I would keep a tree if I had the room but I just like mandarins way more...

I ended up getting the Xie Shan, Kishu, and early saint ann satsuma scions from CCPP. They came in last night. Hopefully will have my tree topworked by tonight.
Lemon tree will be getting some eureka grafts too.

I've got a cheaper tape from Amazon that works well for me, but I've seen videos of guys using buddy tape on YouTube and it is far more flexible. Check out Pete kanaris on YouTube, he just did a few grafting videos with Adam and you'll see what I mean

I bought a champagne loquat a couple months back and it's 2 ft tall. Already holding what appears to be a dozen fruit. This variety any good? Loquats are very popular as landscape trees in my area but I don't know anyone with this variety

I have a pluot that grew really odd because of a large palm being right next to it. I've had issues with wind breaking limbs and knocking fruit off. Prune it hard and it will come back. My tree looks loaded this year and I just added 20+ grafts of a dozen varieties to it. I seem to retain fruit on the thicker branches but this pluots been kind of a dud so far...

You'd be amazed at how many plants you can cram into a large cossover or SUV. My Prius V fit 1 15-gallon, 8 5-gallon and numerous smaller plants plus our luggage. Definitely load up at Exotica, lots of smaller plants that you can easily fit.
We somehow fit our luggage from a week long trip to SoCal, a couple trees and many plants in a corolla a couple years back... Make sure to bring trash bags to tie the pots if leaning sideways... :) learned that the hard way

I used to live on the other side of the bay from redwood city. I'm surprised you are able to grow mangoes there.
I'm an hour north of sacramento and they are struggling here.

I got a few cuttings a few months back and they're taking off. I have one Thai in particular thats only thrown out two branches but is loaded with fruit already.
I have a couple other varieties but they are very young. How's the taste of the thai?

For Eureka lemons CCPP has many varieties. Is there one that stands out above the rest? They have Frost, Allen, Allen-Utt, Taylor, old line and winters seedless. (And a variegated pink)

For the mandrin graft Kishu if you really like mandrin taste. For the lemon pull the Meyer up, throw it out and plant a good Eureka.....😁
I actually like my meyer in lemonade. I got 200+ lbs of fruit from my small tree. I just want to add variety and am enjoying grafting. :)

Hello,
I'm looking to add a mandarin tree or multi graft to my collection. What are your recommendations for sweet seedless mandarins? Preferably with fairly high production.
I am also looking to try and graft my meyer lemon with another variety of lemon. What would you recommend?

Thanks,

Wow, am just drooling.

My Sharwil is about to explode in blooms.  Great fruit in all respects.  It also hangs on the tree a long time.

Love the small seed too!

Low of 21F this morn.

I have these plates too.. I think I bought them at target when I moved out 10 years ago... haha.

I had that plant that died way out away from where we usually go and it was the last sprinkler.  The last sprinklers on the line always have issues.

On my big vines that are established, I put the hose on a drizzle and leave it there for several days at a time to really soak the dirt good.

Good luck with the fruits, that was an impressive turnaround time from cutting to fruit.  Once it gets large feed it accordingly, they will use a lot of food if its putting out a lot of fruit.

Also these stay green here all year so it seems fairly cold hardy.  You can probably plant it outdoors there.
Mine too stay green all year long but it's full of little fruits in the winter that never mature. I can't remember what variety of edulis mine is. I got a Lilikoi cutting from brad a while back that's put on alot of growth but had alot of dieback this winter. Good to see yours flowering, they are gorgeous. I may be interested in one of your ruby glow passionfruits this year if my lingularis from seed doesn't make it, that's an awesome flower.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Extra thorny Meyer lemon
« on: January 30, 2020, 10:12:19 AM »
I notice that most all of the tree's fruit production is limited to the bottom section of the tree, with very little production in the higher portion.  Also the tree seems to be very dense and compact with little sun able to enter into the center of the tree.   If It was my tree I would cut out the thick rapid, elongated, growing branches.  Most  likely water spouts.
This is the first year I let any branches on the tree get tall. That's probably why it's all in the bottom. New growth in the top is flowering now.

Thanks for the input

Honestly I'm not sure. The tree was put in by the previous owner and he said grafted on dwarf rootstalk but his memory is questionable at times...

Hello,
I have a meyer lemon tree that is producing very thick and rapidly growing limbs. These limbs have monster thorns on them.
They do appear to be above the graft as some of them are coming from pretty high up.

--Should I prune these back?

My tree is very dense and I'm in dire need of a clean up prune anyways but I haven't gotten around to harvesting the insane amount of lemons it's producing yet...

Heres a picture of the tree (in the center)
I can get a closer picture later if needed but I'm not at home right now.

Thanks,
