Pachira species side by side and some confusion
« on: November 30, 2014, 01:15:05 AM »
On the bottom of this photo is Pachira glabra. The pod on the top was supposed to be from Pachira aquatica or Pachira insignis, because those are the other species i planted, but it doesn't look like photos of either of these. Seems like there is a lot of confusion in this genus. I'm guessing this comes about because they cross very readily between speices?

You really think i'm going to post a photo of a rotten fruit? :o No, it's perfectly fine. They all ripen to that color. You can see the seeds below the fruit are fine also.

Yes, it's edible and quite tasty, although what is being called Pachira aquatica at F&S park and Fairchild gardens taste terrible. Those might be crossed with some other species?

Luc, that looks like the one that is getting called Pachira aquatica in Florida, which tastes quite bad? Does yours taste bad?

Yes Oscar , not good at all , some say it is better when roasted , haven't tried that . I am happy with my P. glabra , just planted a few more ....
