Mexican cream guava taste?
« on: July 22, 2018, 06:11:43 PM »
Hello, anyone here tasted a Mexican Cream Guava?  I do NOT generally like guava, I think they smell terrible and don't taste much better.  But I have a tree in a prime spot that I'm considering ripping up to put a more desirable tree in its spot.

Does this particular guava taste any better than a "typical" guava?  Like I said, I really do not like guava, but although the tree is new, it is loving its new spot and growing rapidly.  I MIGHT get one guava off of it this year, but I'm betting the lone guava on the tree gets stolen by a raccoon or whatever.

Can anyone comment on the taste / smell of this particular guava?

Thanks!

Of course.  It was given to me, I have since bought trees that I'd much rather have planted, like the macadamia that Steve at Fruitscapes gave me, or one of the mangoes that I bought my last trip there.

Would you rather have a guava or a pina colada mango tree?

I also got a peach cobbler mango, you know, because it tastes exactly like peach cobbler.

the first few times i ate guava, it was terrible
until i grew a plant. Mex Cream.
the aroma was fantastic. i didnt like the hard seeds until i realized i could chew them

then, i grew a large white.
when ripe, the fruit is soft and   sweet.
now i love the damn things, but cant find them for sale
and last years frost killed my plants to the ground.
they are coming back, but fruit on last years wood.

my biggest problem with them is having 2 years without a hard frost
and , if i get that, i get tied of eating them in 2 weeks or so
then i have 100 fruit going bad... the Mex cream seem to fruit in spring
and do almost nothing the rest of the year.
