i had bought a few at the Latino market nearby.
They had a mealy texture i wasnt crazy about.
it was somewhat creamy at the same time
and the fruit was fairly soft.
they also sell it in jars of (water/or ?)

They are high in pectin and supposedly make a good jam.

its Crataegus Mexicana, supposedly the best one for fruit.
i have a Crataegus douglasii, but i cant get the damn thing to grow at all.
Haw jam is pretty popular down south. i had Haw-Kumquat years ago, it was pretty damn good.

Tejocote punch is a traditional seasonal drink in Mexico.  I agree on the description of the fruit's flavor, but it is popularly utilized in other forms.  Google gives several uses for the fruit.

This is the tejocote tree but on internet the Crataegus Mexicana have different leafes. I think is not the same tree maybe.

People have (mistakenly) thought it was a kind of plum. I have heard all different, interesting kinds of descriptions of the smell (even like bubble gum.) I was curious about it being a kind of Hawthorn.

But, when I finally tasted some, I thought it was like a small apple.

I was able to plant some seeds, during "ponche" season, so will probably have a few, young trees, in the Spring.

Mmm, I tasted some fruits as well. I'd say I wasn't crazy of the taste of the raw fruit, similar to others above. I'd say you have better grow something more cool, like plectranthus rotundifolius. (Yeah, that's  a suggestion you may disagree with.)
