Hey Guys, been a while, but back at it again. I have a tangelo tree that is about to flower here in Canada ans I was wondering if it needs to be cross-pollinated? Google gave me mixed answers. I also have a lime flowering right now, but it will stop really soon. Can the pollen from the lime pollinate my tangelo? Is there also a way to preserve pollen? I'm unsure if they'll be able to have flowers at the same time.

Should I be scared because there's no leaves at 12'' above the graft?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Should I prune or pug this mango tree?
« on: July 11, 2013, 10:45:56 PM »
Hi everybody! I have a small question for you guys. Should I prune this new mango tree? It is a haden and it has already new shoots growing. I don't know if I should prune it because it looks great, but it's big. I took a picture of it next to my grow room for the winter to give an idea of the height of the room. I need to keep it small enough to fit in it? Any ideas? It's already over 6 feet tall if you're wondering.

Thanks!

If you wants some pictures of very bad winter temperature here's some :)
Before:

After:

We received 19 inches of snow under 24 hours. This was the biggest snowstorm we ever had! We never receiced that much snow in a snowstorm! Our last record of 1971 was 18 inches. It took 2 hours to clean this up :) Unfortunately there's still more to come...

Really good collection! I never thought that those would grow in Spain. I thought it was too cold.

14
Yes it is, it only means that flowering signal wasn't big enough. I mean the variation of temperature that introduced blooms.

I just discovered that my tree had root rot... :( I repotted it in the gritty mix. I hope it will survive.

My mango tree lost 10 leaves this week! It has some new growth, but some of it wilts and dies... What should I do?

Thanks everybody!

Mangofang, I hope I'll have some more :), but next time I'll try to pickthem when mature.

Zands, I guess I have a more crazy mind than a science mind to grow mangoes in Canada :)

Bend, I like also to see some people on the forum who tries to grow tropicals in cold climates. It gives me hope and whenever I have a question, I can ask.

Thanks everybody!

Rob, I know you don't like the Carrie mango ,but what are the other drawbacks that you found?

Phantomcrab, I do use supplement lighthing because my days are really short (7am to 4pm). I made a grow room this summer.

Here's a picture:

I use a 1000w metal halide system with a couple of warn white cfls to get more red.

Hi everybody :) Today I tasted the last mango from my Carrie mango tree. Unfortunately, the condition of the tree isn't so good and I had to remove all the fruits before they came mature. They did ripe, but only the last one tasted great! I did taste some herb medecine in the other ones, but not in that one and it was very juicy :) I can now proudly say that I have mangoes in Canada!

Here's some pictures:
