Ross sapote grown from seed
« on: April 25, 2019, 11:35:50 AM »
I have two Ross sapote seedlings and have failed at grafting them.  I am considering just planting and hope I get something good.  What do you think?  Has anyone done this?

Yes in 2011 or so. No fruit yet...(shallow soil where the tree is though)

They are in the same genus so you are good. Pouteria.

Not sure how reliable a ‘Ross’ seedling is, grafting may be best.

A few months ago I bought some Ross fruit from forum member 'Shot'. The seeds are up and I put one of four in ground. He told me you may wait 10 years from seed. His source was Whitman's specimen. The fruit was great.

I did my grafting already this year, but I've had success taking cuttings before they push spring growth.
