Aravaipa Avocado Cold tolerance revisited
« on: June 23, 2019, 06:35:09 PM »
Its reported by some as Aravaipa tree being able to tolerate 10 f maybe it can and maybe it cant, i heard of no living proof but best i can tell the area where mother tree is it never gets that low and surely never on a regular basis, more likey common winter temps are prob somewhere between 20 to 28 degrees so my advice for anyone thinking they will grow well in 10 degress dont relay on that.I would winter protect any young avocado tree below 32 and not take any risk at least until tree has matured and got several years under its belt. I do think the high summer high temps the tree can likely take are much more reliable but still make sure young tender trees are painted white and prob use a 50 to 70 percent shade cloth depending on where one lives.
