Shade lovers
« on: December 02, 2012, 09:42:30 AM »
I just read that the Salak is a shade lover. What other fruits can be grown in the shade? I have enough space left behind the house and grow paprika and lemongrass there but i prefer to grow tropical fruits.

Hi Bankok,
a bunch of trees and plants adapt very well to a shady location...though with some fruit trees, productivity will drop but there will still be enough fruit for a family to eat and enjoy :)

Thanks for the tips! My house will be a fruitgarden all around  ;D

Can i also grow a green mango in the shade and let it fruit?

Many of the fruits named here i saw on the market but because you have to buy a kg i never tried them.

Understory fruit trees.....
« Reply #6 on: November 07, 2013, 09:39:27 AM »
In Costa Rica I have seen very fruitful mangosteen and avocado trees grown in very limited sun light. Are there other tropical fruit trees that will thrive as understory conditions or partial shade?

Do you know of any jaboticaba or garcinias that NEED full sun?  Sounds promising

Doing the same. Not sure if I will like the fruit, but hear so many good things about it (and bad like it can kill you lol) but like the foliage either way.

Gourlata, Thanks for the info...these are the types of plants I know very little about, but I have a shady spot so will look into them.  Any more?
