Title: Florida Low Temperatures
Post by: johnb51 on January 21, 2019, 08:17:18 AM
I guess we just had our coldest night so far this winter in SoFla.  44 degrees this morning.  How about other parts of Florida?  Any low 30's in zone 9b?

40 to 41 right now (8:25 am) and the sun has been up for a little while so I am sure it is warmed from the lows overnight.

I measures on two pieces of banana stems that I had cut down a couple of days ago and the temperature just below the surface was 37.
My best guess is that (37 degrees or a tad bellow) was likely the coldest we got in my part of western jupiter.

The projections was for 39 here and a little lower in Loxahatchee and Indian Town.  Would like to see how low they got.

Hi John, we hit 47Deg. in Tampa and Mangos are starting to Flower, Plants are confused and starting to sprout.
Last year in all of the Tropical Trees where burnt here inTampa, we lost all of the Fruits, Mangos, Annonas, Papayas, and many more.
In this area every year is a roll of the Dice.

A few hours before dawn, it was 39 in my driveway, during the 12 minute drive North to work I hit a area of 37, then 39 in the parking lot at work.
Probably ended up with 37 at home just before dawn.

I showed 38 in rockledge just easy of merritt island at 6:30 am. Only protected one of my mango trees flowering. I choose the coconut cream over the LZ. Hope it was a good decision.

We were 37 for the low on my property on the far west side of Lakeland near the airport.  We were colder during the shot at the very end of November hitting 35 one morning. That has been the coldest so far this winter however we have had many many nights of low 40's and high 30's this winter. A very cool winter yet without freezes so far which I'll take over the warmest winter with a few nights sub 30*.

Ouch!

Brutal cold is on the horizon for North America later this week and into next week. Yes, potentially looking at sub -40F (this is also -40C).

I know, hard to believe. I'm a little south of Miami. Thermometer now says 42. Wunderground app had 38 listed as low this morning, along with thermometer.

Glad I left sprinkler spraying mangosteen tree all night.

According to Accuweather, the lowest I got was 34°. There were a lot of forecasts for my area to go below freezing, so I had fun turning my yard into a pathetic Halloween display of sad-looking ghosts last night😂

Hit 38-39 here in Palm City, wind was pretty brutal. I didn’t cover any of my trees including the “ultra tropicals” ie duku langsat, marang, pedalai, salak, mocambo. If they die they die, I’m really just trying to see if these seedlings can adapt themselves to our climate. Also have Poshte which seems more hardy than soursop as it hasn’t defoliated like my mature soursop has.

It’s a belief of mine that seeds have a will to survive and adapt, I know I’m hoping for a lot but will see what is left as time goes on, only one way to find out.

The low on my property here in Lakeland was 31* and under 32* for about two hours. Was ready to turn the shower on over the Jackfruit tree but I didn't turn it on and the tree looks perfectly fine this evening. I don't see any issues on my property other than a few burnt banana leaves and sweet potato leaves which are mostly toast. Only thing I covered was passion fruit fence but even the exposed areas are fine. Hopefully this is it for the year :).

App said 36 here in SWFL but I think it was closer to 38. The wind was brutal.

Interesting I am just a mile or so north and didn't get a temp reading but the wind may have helped. I don't see signs of leaf damage defoliation on breadfruit will check again today.

Breadfruit that's pushing the zone. The only 40+ temp I seen in sw florida on wunder map was useppa island.I think to farm their you have to have at least 8 digits.Chempedaks and artocarpus lanceifolius look good so far, Quararibea cordata looks some bothered had alot of new growth, cacao new growth looks very good.Old soursop looks to loose 99% leaves.Red prawn look good.

Checked again today no leaf damage at all to the breadfruit.
