Garcinia puat
« on: September 05, 2015, 12:05:29 AM »
My 1 year old seedlings of Garcinia puat, one of the very few interesting New  Caledonian endemic fruit tree in terms of edibility and taste. One can make delicious jelly/jam with the fruits.

Picture of the fruit :

For those interested I should be able to supply seeds and seedlings pretty soon. Trade only.

Wow.  That's the taste like?  Dioecious?

I'm kind of interested in the cold hardiness.  Some of the more subtropical animals on New Calodonia are surprisingly cold hardy.

I asked Vincent same question, here is what he told me:
"Well the taste is hard to describe but I would say it is in between a plum and a strawberry. Fruits must be eaten well ripe otherwise it can be a bit acid/tart taste. The fruits can be eaten out of hand but we usually use them to make jelly or jam."
