I germinated black walnut easy just moist potting mix. Might be as easy but can't say, good luck! Oscar at fruitlovers might have some insight

These seedlings are from seeds imported from Brazil! They are probably the same batch but should be genetically distinct enough to provide pollen as a distinct parent.

Awesome! It was a fun event and got a lot of people stoked about all the weird things they never knew existed! Sold a lot of plants to stoked people, lots of Lucuma, which was great! I bought 25 of Denis' Mango 1 Butia eriospatha seedlings, which are supposed to be the best.  Definitely reccommend the event

I heard someone say the event was going to be in ventura again at least for next year

I found Green Sapote and White Sapote trees around Lago Atitlan.

I see your P striatulum is doing the cleistogamous (don't open) flowers thing. My plant didnt do it for the first few years now its common on my mother and all the seedlings. My mother started producing opened flowers this year but still a good bunch of them are cleistogamous.  Wonder if its a recessive trait that is due to inbreeding due to a lack of genetic diversity.  Would be great to get some different genetics to breed that trait out.  The fern leaf I gave you has so many seedlings from that batch of seeds that are not fern leafed and i wonder if its related to P striat due to visual similarities, maybe can use that to cross.

I used to use them to propagate grassland species at a reserve. We'd hsve about 50,000 plants a year in propagation! I like them for more of grassland and species with fibrous vigorous root systems but I don't particularly like them for the subrropicals, at least in my climate and current set up, which is limited to hand watering once or twice a week

Nice to see the thread updated. Looking good K-rimes
My eugeniafolia are not ripening lol. Been taking so long...

Psidiums seem to sit for everrr and then all of a sudden ripen up. my longipetiolatum sized up and then ripened months later

Awesome! It really is one of the most delicious Eugenias I've had so far.
Mine are in full sun in Santa Cruz, California, so definitely not quite what people might get in Texas or Florida.  The plant these seedlings came from got shaded out by an Oak and really didn't seem to like it. Just pruned up the Oak so hoping to see it boost up again.

Has anybody tried removing the endocarp per Ronnie Demler's methods and not soaked in GA3?  I'm thinking of trying to remove the endocarp to speed up germination but not sure if the GA3 will be a requirement to break dormancy?

I've been considering setting up a mezzei system but I have like 3 separate zones that can't quite be hooked up. Thinking of getting a mobile dosatron-mixrite situation with a mobile 50-100g tank.  I've got a 320 that I use to fertilize my potted plants with fish and kelp but would love to get fertigation going in my orchard, seems like itll help step things up big time. I'm thinking my microsprinklers should be able to handle the gunk. Anyone use a dosatron or mixrite?

Here's another passage from Fairchild. If Myrica rubra is "Nagi", I wonder what was the "Yang mei" he referred to earlier?

I believe Nagi is Myrica esculenta. A different species but very similar fruits AFAIK.  I have a couple of those plants as well.  I don't think nematodes are too prevalent in California and we may not see them manifest symptoms on our trees whereas in Florida you are more likely to see the todes.

I see you added more photos but did not remove the one where you cropped the watermark out. It is illegal to use someone's photos for commercial purposes with out permission. I kindly ask that you remove it from your listing. Thank you

70
Hey Joe, I'd appreciate it if you didn't use a cropped version of my photo to sell your goods. Thank you.

My in ground Myrica rubra seedlings have a distinct talc-y coat on the new leaves. None of my grafted plants or Myrica esculenta are doing this.  Pretty cool to see. A defense mechanism to protect new growth from extreme sun exposure. Also looks totally beautiful

Wanted to say that after talking with many people and doing trials myself, I now come to the conclusion that yangmei will do well in zones 8 and up. Now I don't know the max though as chill hours seem to be required. I know many people who are hesitant to try yangmei down in south FL and PR as the lack of chill hours may be a problem. Now, there are many cultivars, so I think it's only a matter of time till we find one that does well in tropical climates.
I'm getting seeds of a yangmei plant in hawaii that is self fruitful! Stoked!

Thanks Kevin! Was great to meet everyone and see what you've got going on in your garden. Super beautiful and even more motivation for me to start fertilizing more regularly.
