Erdon Lee Lychee Availability in Australia
« on: May 10, 2017, 10:42:28 AM »
The variety of Lychee dubbed Erdon Lee can have some incredible looking Lychees!! I was wondering if any are available anywhere in Australia, or better yet, if any of your forum members would have any available?

Please let me know!!
Has anyone tasted this variety? If so, how do you compare it to what's in the market now?

Have a great day :)

Since the articles about this variety say it's from China, not an Australian-originated cultivar, does anyone know if it can or has already been brought to the US?  Might be nice to get a few sticks of it to graft from someone in Australia or China.

Joint Australian and Chinese project and I believe there are PBR with it. The giant seedless offered by Jason Nursery originally dubbed as A4 was even more exciting being bigger.

These have been available for a few months now and saw one in a general nursery for the first time today. Tempting but don’t think I can justify the room for a third lychee (others are red ball and wai chee). Anyone able to comment on flavour?

Oxley
They had a few, would be from Fitzroy. Considering going back tomorrow but there is enough for both of us They wanted less than daleys was recently selling them for, but still pricey.

Ulfr do you know much about the quality of fruit that Red Ball produces? I believe they get to a reasonable size as well

I have heard it is good but yet to try them for myself. It was an impulse purchase when the first lot were released.

There seems to be a bunch of new varieties out with not much info about them. Makes it tough to do your homework ;)

Here are 3 new ones that you may have been talking about. I don't think they have been distributed much in Australia yet and there seems to be little information on them.

As far as I know the seedless hasn't been released to nurseries yet but no doubt a few people have some.I am not sure if it is the same as the A4 seedless of Jason Nursery in Guangdong or not.

Erdon Lees in a handsome paw. The lychee landscape has changed and these ramp lychees up to the next level.

Are any of these new lychee varieties more suited to warmer climate than the old Mauritius?
I wanted to see if I can have anything to look forward to on the lychee front for the next time i get a new house

Mauritius/Tai So is one of the most warmth loving lychees but still winter minimums should get down to 10c for good flowering.Erdon Lee is a heat lover also and if your winter minimums were in the range of 5c to 10c without falling below 5c that would be ideal. I recall fussing over 50g FZS's in the past but Erdon Lee is way bigger than that and they taste great as well. It seems to be what all the lychee enthusiasts want here atm.
