Carla Avocado

Has anyone tasted this avocado?  The article says that Brooks Tropicals distributes it from February to early June.  Do you think it would grow well in South Florida?

I found it at Presidente Supermarket.  When it's ready to eat, I will comment on it.

I sampled this avocado along with a Hass. It was a typical West Indian type avocado. Not outstanding in flavor, but not flavorless and watery either.  Soft and buttery in texture.  The Hass definitely had more flavor.  I wouldn’t say it was any better than, say, Simmonds or Choquette.  So the best thing it has going for it is that it ripens at this time of year--late winter/early spring.  Would that be the same for South Florida?  I don't know.  Is it worth the $2.75 to $3.00 price tag?  Not if I can buy five Hass avocados from Mexico for the same price.

Here's another plus: does not turn brown when cut and refrigerated.

True.  Not much oil content.

I found a Carla avocado at Aldi today ($1.89).  It’s a small one--next to a “large” Hass.  It's from AIOSA so it's the genuine patented real thing.  We'll see if it tastes any better than the previous one.

The flavor of this one was the same as the first one.  Fine for eating out of hand.  Does not hold its own, gets lost in a salad.
