Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Drought in the Amazon
« Last post by K-Rimes on April 15, 2024, 04:29:00 PM »
Drought and Amazon are two words I would hope to never see in the same sentence.

Frightening.

Rainforests all over the world are in rough shape. The Amazon is but one of them. BC in Canada where I'm originally from is about to enter the worst drought in recorded snow history. Their snowpack is at an all time low, and it is the second year in a row that it is low which will compound this year's issues. My family had to water cedar trees around their property so they didn't die last year... Going to be a doozy this year. :(

Meanwhile, in Santa Barbara, CA we've had the most rain in a 2 year period, breaking our 1951 record.

It's not just hotter, but things are just plain weird, and extreme.

Madison lists a Citrangequat 10-3-4:

Anyone know what this is or what it's hardiness is like?

Temperate Fruit Discussion / Re: Germinating hawthorn seeds
« Last post by BloomAndSprout on April 15, 2024, 04:15:36 PM »
I'm growing them for the fruit, for medicinal and culinary uses, or for wildlife habitat. I wanted to evaluate a few different species. So far I have germination on C. opaca, C. punctata var. aurea, C. azarolus, and C. douglasii.
C. punctata var. aurea has yellow-ish fruits, correct?

Do you know where I can obtain some of the seeds, or could I purchase some off of you?

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Figs vs kumquats

Seedlings and cuttings aren't comparable when it comes to growth. Figs are also much more vigorous growers overall.

Plus there's also soil conditions, feeding, temperatures, light, poor seedling genetics, etc. that factor into it.

Well the rain sure is here with about double the usual rain for the last 5 months since the wet season began early and another 150mm last night. Somewhere has to be drier to compensate.

I like the cloths pin idea!  I'm waiting for seeds to sprout so I can try my luck at grafting.
