You may have the fake Mahachanok. Some nurseries were selling it as Mahachanok a few years ago.
Do you have a pic of the tree and fruit?
This is what fruit and tree look like. I purchased it from Excalibur 3 to 4 years ago.

I don't know enough about the variety to say yes or no, but I do know that we have had problems, both me and a good friend of mine, with this variety. We both purchased some from different sources, fruited them, and realized they were not Maha. I don't know why this seem to be a common mis-labeled mango. Maybe someone can chime in with a similar experience.

Appears to be the real thing.
The “fake” was a mango we’ve been calling Sia Siam which has raised leaves.

You’ve lost all credibility with that statement. Sia Siam is garbage.

That sure looks like Maha to me. Unless, of course, my tree is also a fake :-)

I figured I did not need to answer since Squam answered. Only if I disagreed with him, which would be unlikely, would I feel the need to respond.

So I tasted this mango. It was sweet and good. I'm going to have to think about how best to describe the flavor, but it was very interesting and pleasant--so totally different than the Angies and Pickerings I've been eating for the past six weeks!

Anyone have a picture of Si Siam? I believe Si Siam is one of the varieties Maurice Kong has us sample. The shape and color was similar to Maha but it had a slightly funky taste. The fruit was slightly over ripe. Thanks,

I would still like to see a picture of Si Siam if anyone has it.
On a side note, I’ve tasted Mahas from multiple sources in SoCal and Florida and the ones I’ve had so far we’re the same.

Distinguishing the flavor of Maha Chanok? I get why Harry H and Jeff (Cookie Monster) said it had a strong "cola" element and were so intrigued with it. I'm totally on board.

This is the first year with fruit for my tree with maybe a dozen or 14. So even though it's a few years away from hitting its stride, I have to say I'm satisfied and pleased with the flavor. I can see why when this forum was getting started back in 2012 it was considered one of the top mangoes. Tropical Acres Farms describes it as "Saigon/Indian-Indochinese hybrids" with a "sweet, floral flavor," and this is accurate along with the cola flavor. It's one of the most beautiful mangoes.

Cola flavor indeed mine where super sweet delicious we truly enjoyed our Mahas..
