Grafted Luc's garcinia onto Imbe
« on: August 11, 2016, 06:05:09 PM »
Here is a photo of a Luc's garcinia grafted on to an in the ground Imbe, it was grafted on to a root sucker of a large Imbe. The ones I grafted onto the Luc planted into the ground have yet to break out.

Congratulations Mark. Here's mine grafted onto an in ground Achachairu. I removed a couple branches from the rootstock in order to divert energy towards the graft. First two leaves just starting to expand.

Inspirational, guys. Really gives us some hope to try these Luc Garcinias before we're in rocking chairs :)

Looks good but I don't think you are out of the woods yet. I've had 2 initially push like that but then dry up because there was not a connection. For mine the ones that took longest to push seem to be doing best. I thought none of mine had any chance but I actually think I may end up with 4 out of 6 taking. I was so sure none would end up taking I traded one of my grafted mangosteens for one assuming mine were going to be failures. These things seem pretty resilient. My budwood was 30 days old. So far they seem to be compatible with any New world garcinia.

this is the first time i tried to graft luc onto intermedia....looks like it's going much better than my attempt of grafting luc onto xanthochymus (which healed, but dried up after i took it out of the bag)

Awesome. I wonder if trunk above graft will be larger than the intermedia rootstock. Lucs garcinia has thicker stem

I have a few seashore mangosteens coming up (thanks to a generous forum member).
Planing on grafting some Luc's to it. Anyone had success with that combo?

Interesting if the 'seashore' works out as that is an Asian garcinia and logically is not as closely related as the other mentioned rootstocks.

Any updates on how this one's doing? I've got a 6' christmas tree looking imbe that I'm thinking I might try an achachairu on, or Luc's, or hell even both while I'm at it.

Luc's Mangosteen grafts well onto Achachairu. Here is my graft with the second set of leaves fully pushed out. The first set of leaves was small and deformed but the second set looks great.

How much would grafting a Lucs Garcinia to an achacha speed up the fruiting process? And can you graft it onto a branch of an inground achacha that’s about 4ft tall? I am a
Complete rookie at grafting I’ll probably find someone to do it for me!

I've had good takes of Mexican Garcinia on Achachairu and intermedia.  Haven't gotten it to push any new growth after the first pair of leaves, but it's a slow grower so I guess it'll take time...

I have no idea. I grafted mine onto a small seedling Achachairu so it has grown extremely slow. Mine is also in full shade now as the trees around it have started blocking out the sunlight. I see no reason why you can’t graft onto an in ground Achacha like I did.

Here is my largest Lucs on an in ground Imbe. It was grafted in August of 2016 and is about 3 feet tall. The first photo in this thread is the same graft from August 12, 2016

Here is an update on the Luc's on Imbe, grafted in August of 2016. I cut the huge male Imbe that was shadowing the Luc's, so maybe some fruit in a few years.

Mark, that’s awesome, hopefully it will Fruit for you in the near future. My graft is still really small as it’s in full shade.
