I've been trying to get my hands on one of these for a while. It seems at least in South Florida they are hard to come by.

This was taken yesterday, I bought one so only one left
15 gallon, UF Best, $60, Sunrise (near Sawgrass mall) Home Depot

Came across the 2017 list recently. Didn't see any post concerning it yet
http://www.fairchildgarden.org/events-community-outreach/international-mango-festival/2017-curators-choice-mango-trees

The Siamese sounds interesting. I wouldn't mind putting a kastooree on my canal bank to see how it does with fungus.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Suggestions for shade trees near the road
« on: April 22, 2017, 06:17:49 PM »
I had some plans for this area mentioned in a previous thread. The city just gave me a citation saying I need to plant a shade tree in the swale.
It needs to be 12ft.
I need to complete it by July.

Anyone have suggestions?

Don't really want to buy a 25 gal tree so if someone can point me to a tree that is vigorous enough to pass the eye ball test if I plant it now.
It helps if it's a nice looking edible. I was think tamarind or mulberry. Also if you know anywhere selling that would be great. Or if anyone has any really big seedlings.

Thanks

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Atemoya Pollinator
« on: March 24, 2017, 09:35:53 AM »
One of my Atemoya trees is full of flowers. I seen some little beetles inside them when I was trying to hand pollinate.
Are these pollinators?

Its really hard to get a good picture.
They only come out when i start messing with the flowers, I've seen 4 in one male flower.

They are about the size off a small black ant, just rounder.

« on: March 14, 2017, 09:46:53 AM »

The trees has been doing a lot better than last year.
I think this leaves formed when the temperatures started to drop.

Could this be deficient in a particular nutrient?

I want to plant a tree next to my mail box which is on the corner of my driveway and street.
The nearest tree is 25ft away. This tree will be a bit neglected.
I figure a lot of the fruit will "disappear", so something inconspicuous or green wouldn't hurt.

So far I'm thinking a SE Asian mango (I'll be picking a lot green), or scab prone avocados

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Selling: Free Ice Cream Bean Tree
« on: February 23, 2017, 08:44:28 AM »

I giving away this ice cream bean tree for free. Just come and dig it up.
The tree seems pretty healthy. I don't think the roots can get a footing in the soil.
I'm tired of having to prop it up multiple time a year.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Zinc mango info (not its offspring)
« on: February 15, 2017, 09:03:57 AM »
I've been looking on the forum for information about Zinc mango (Zill indochinese).
I did a forum search for both of the names, "Zinc" & "Zill indochinese", but there doesn't seem to be much information about the tree.

I plan on top-working a tree (Carrie) this year to Edgar and I wanted something that is high production that I can graft along with it.
The Zinc I had last year really impressed me and I assume the firmer texture lends itself to a longer shelf life (like Edgar).

I know Sweet Tart fits the bill but I'm not the biggest fan, I prefer Zinc (I'm in the minority)

If anyone has any info on ZINC or any other suggestions that would be great.

Thanks

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Wanted: Abiu seedling
« on: January 18, 2017, 04:02:45 PM »
Does anyone have any abiu seedlings from some good varieties locally, or willing to ship (if in US)?

I have some seedling Rollinias to trade (from forum member Kona)

I planted a 7gal meyer lemon tree on my lot about 3 years ago. Its growing but not thriving. Not really that much production either, i might get a few Meyer lemons during this time of year.

I take care of it as much as my other trees, but i guess citrus is really needs more attention.

Now I'm concerning replacing it.

Here are my requirements:
Season - winter/spring
Size - 10-15ft
Easy to grow (at least easier than most citrus)
No thorns
Somewhat shade tolerant (I'd say its around 75% sun)
I have a loquat, starfruit, avocado, caimito and custard apple for this time of year so something different would be nice

The only other things i can think of are Persimmons, Peaches and of course more citrus.
Any other suggestions?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Jackfruit nutrition deficiency
« on: November 07, 2016, 09:10:12 AM »
I have a J31 jackfruit (planted it before i knew about some of the better varieties), its been in the ground for around 3 years.
This year i started noticing the the newer leaves look unhealthily.
Is this a nutrition problem? What is it lacking and can i apply it now?

My Golden Pillow is a 20ft away and around half the J-31 size but its not showing the same symptom

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Atemoya splitting
« on: November 07, 2016, 08:55:01 AM »
I've gotten fruit from this atemoya tree for the last two years.
It seems ever fruit opens and splits near the stem which wouldn't be problem except that by the time it ripens mold starts growing near and inside the opening.

The tree was sold to me as a Lisa, but its clearly not. The leaves on the tree aren't nearly as big as the leaves on the Gefner nearby, it also has less of a sub-acid content then the gefner i got this year.
This trees fruit is pretty firm and the skin comes of easy sort of like Na Dai sugar apple. I can't really let it get softer for the above reason.

The pink color is from the camera, the fruit has no pink what so ever.

Different picture from earlier this year

« on: September 20, 2016, 04:45:54 PM »
i have a pretty nice spot for a mulberry 10-15 feet in front of my patio. should get full sun for most of the day.

I would like to keep it less than 10ft, but don't mind if it spreads.
I was thinking about Thai Dwarf, does any have any other suggestions?

Multiple harvest/Everbearing is my priority
Are there green/white ones that have multiple harvest per year?
