Hi Kaz! Yes I do, the two main trees I have are Vernon white and I’ve grafted other varieties onto them. They seem to start blooming around now and fruits are ripe September-October typically for me.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Starfruit ID

Hi all! Is this starfruit? I got it labeled from the local club as carambola “kanuk” but the flowers seem different from what I’ve seen online or in person on other plants. Any help would be appreciated thanks!

From the all the descriptions online I thought the Vernon whites were white inside vs yellow? Of the varieties I’ve had I seem to prefer the white ones overall compared to the yellows.

13
Any tips on how to pick at the proper ripeness? Can they hang for too long on the tree? I have one that was labeled as “Vernon white” but it had yellow flesh. Tasty but not what I was expecting, wondering if I waited too long.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Dragon Fruit thread.

Has anybody started to get together a "bloom calendar" for varieties that overlap for cross-pollinating? My first year with multiple varieties blooming and feel like I might have some gaps for cross-pollination, am wondering if I just need more plants/size so that the blooms of different varieties have a longer cycle.

Hi all! I have a small 2’ bush that is blooming well but does not set any fruit. Does it set better with another plant to cross pollinate? Plenty of bees flying around and taking care of other plants nearby. Maybe more or less water? Plant is potted, full sun, watered 2x per week. Thanks!

All out of Lisa, geffner, honeyhart.

Depending on the amendments it can prevent the tree roots from growing out properly in the surround soil (the roots stay in the same ball of soil and get crowded instead of pushing out into native soil). The shade cloth can help reduce some stress in the new location until the tree gets established. Is the potted tree already close to where it will be planted so that it is used to same sun exposure?

Here in 10A California, will try watering on the heavier side during flowering and lighter at fruit set and will update this thread to see if they hold fruit. Planted in ground.
