Tropical Fruit Discussion / First Sapodilla Flowers
« on: May 27, 2018, 02:58:21 PM »
Pretty excited to see my Alano Sapodilla starting to flower here in South Florida.  Seems a bit late in the season for its first flowers. Hopefully in a couple weeks or months I’ll have some fruit.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Last minute cold prep SE FL
« on: January 03, 2018, 04:36:30 PM »
I wasn’t expecting or didn’t notice it was projected to be around 32* degrees here in PSL tomorrow around sunrise. What should I do with 3+ 7’ mango trees that have bubblers on the irrigation system. I am thinking of putting pots around the trunk and running the bubblers. Not sure what to do with my other small Lychee, small Jabotacabas, and a few small banana trees. I have an irrigation system I could turn on but it won’t be able to consistently cover all the trees.  Should I wrap the trunks with towels or blankets? Just not sure what to do to protect the trees.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / First haul of strawberries
« on: December 09, 2017, 07:49:43 PM »
Planted a few strawberry plants less than a month or so ago. The critters started getting at them so I figured it was time for me to pick the first crop. They are very tasty, I don’t know why I haven’t planted these in years past. Oh well, no better time than right now to plant them.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Sugar Apple issues
« on: December 08, 2017, 05:03:34 PM »
I recently planted this Sugar Apple. It was planted about a month ago. It’s almost 6’ tall. There is a lot of damage and the leaves are getting brown spots and dying. Any idea the cause?

I have 2 small Jabotacaba, one standard variety 4.5' tall and other is Hybrid red 2' tall, planed about 3-4 months ago. I also have a Sweetheart Lychee about 4.5' tall and wonder what is the best fertilizer for both types of trees.

Is it too early to pick these? Having trouble with the 4 legged critters.

I have an area that is shaded from some surrounding pine trees. What tropical fruit trees would do well in this area? Grass grows well there and is irrigated.

Anyone have a link of that video that used to be pinned at the top of the forum page. I recall watching it back in Jan/Feb. They found some cool fruit including Inga in the Amazon.

Anyone have Makok Sapodilla for sale? I am in PSL on the Treasure Coast. I frequently travel to mid Palm Beach County.

Hello,

So I planted these 3 decant sized trees last summer. I thought I was getting 3 different seasons of mangoes to have mangoes all summer. Is this normal for they all to be blooming and starting to set fruit?
Carrie early
Southern Blush mid
Kent late

Citrus General Discussion / Issue on leaves
« on: April 19, 2016, 07:37:27 PM »
I'm new to citrus trees. I noticed an issue on my cocktail tree leaves today. Issue is on grapefruit main  portion of the tree, lime and lemon do not have same issue. It is only on newest growth of recently planed tree. Tree has had new growth since being planted, witch was about 3-4 weeks ago. Here is a pic of the tree and a close up of leaf.

I'm in northern area of south Florida. I'm going to be adding a few mango trees. Trying for an extended fruit supply in the future, with an early, mid, and late season varieties. Southern Blush, Carrie, and Kent are what we're looking at. Have lots of size options to purchase here from 3 to 7 to 15 gallon sixes available. Will I get fruit production from 7 or 15 gallon sizes next year? What are the pros and cons of planting the different sizes other than cost to purchase?
