I went to Ong's Nursery today to drop off a big stalk of Vietnamese bananas and was surprised at some real nice trees and fruit he's got going. He calls the red atemoya. "Ong Ruby" Atemoya.

Is the "Ong Ruby" Atemoya also 47-18?
Geffner X red custard apple?

How does the "Ong Ruby" Atemoya taste?

I haven't tasted the Ruby, but it is white inside.

Hi mark
I drop by Ong last month on my way to Yucatán thru CBX. I couldn't believe how much inventory quang carries in that small location. His red atemoyas are expensive from $200 to $1,500 I believe. I fruited a red Atemoya years ago I got my wood also from Spain. I did a cross with pinks mammoth atemoya that’s fruited.

How did the red atemoya taste? Also how did the Pink Mammoth x red taste in comparison?
Thanks

I had 2 grafted red AtemoyA from Spain  that I left it hold 2 fruits which I didn’t care for and I let the graft die.....do a forum search to see fruits. The seeds for the cross hybrids were germinated and eventually fruited by a member in this forum and he said the fruit was ok nothing especial.....I’ve never bother to try.

You can tell it is 4718 from the neon yellow around the leaf.  Everyone and their mother have over hype and purchase the tree but later regret the time, energy, and money wasted.  Then you throw your fist in the air and say you got me Ong!!!!  No!!!!!!

It certainly looks like a 4718 Mikey. I got my 4718scions from Spain about 7 years ago.

That Ong Ruby looks great and if the taste is there and it isn't too seedy it looks like a winner.

My friend picked up on of his red annona’s about a year ago but it had no name at the time. His tree is fruiting now but only holding a few small fruit. Anyone know what it might be?

I guess in the pictures, my friends fruit looks more purple than red

just out of interest if you want to break an atemoya open by hand and its easy with few or no visible seeds 9or in the fruit at all) its likely to be a mammoth or derivative. If it is irregular in shape that is also a give away. Some of the new reds can be identified this way.
