I have a Sapodilla which was grafted but the graft died and a long shoot from the seedling rootstock came out about a year ago. I'm planning to wait to see if it flowers. Does it still take several years for the shoot to flower even if the rootstock has been in the ground for over 5 years? Thanks

I have been trying to graft a red guava on a white guava seedling rootstock but keeps failing. I was able to graft another white variety on it fine. I was then thinking the two colors are maybe not compatible or cannot be mixed. Any thoughts?

Is there a special technique or trick needed to graft Mangos? I have tried cleft and side veneer and cannot get the grafts to take. Sometimes they push a little and die. I have been grafting fruit trees like Cherimoyas, guavas and stone fruit with good success but cannot get mango to take.

Any suggestions?

Simon is correct. The open flower in the picture is still in the female state. You need to wait until it turns male. This usually happens after 24hrs. Best times to pollinate is in the morning before 10am or afternoon after 5pm.

I have a Turnbull white guava that  last crop had no flavor at all. Very good size but what a waste of fruit. The previous year it was very good. I was wondering if this may be due to either over watering or not enough. What is the water requirement for Guavas. Is it like Mango that if you water too much it loses flavor? Thanks

When do green sapotes flower? I keep reading some people say spring while others say fall. Maybe depending on the variety?

Is it ok to eat the skin of a white sapote fruit? I have a Suebelle white sapote and the flesh is flavorful but hard to scoop with seeds seeds and soft skin. I end up eating parts of skin and flesh together. Skin does not have bitterness of other cultivars.

Doug, mamey sapote is very popular in Cuba. They are simply called Mamey or Mamey Colorado. Not to be confused with Mamey de Santo Domingo (Mammea Americana) which is also popular there.

I have been spraying Bonide liquid copper during flowering. I now have tiny and pea size mangos. Question is should I still keep spraying them with copper every 10 days? If so, for how long? thanks

I was wondering if anyone had experience in rooting purple mombin cuttings and can explain the best process. I have seen videos for other plants and trees using rooting hormone and planting it in soil. Others show rooting in water first. Which method works best? Also can't see to find whether all or some rooting hormone are safe for edible plants as far as not being toxic.

104 degrees today. Had to cover up my mango tree. White Sapote is usually tough but I an seeing leaves scorching. My poor lawn is drying out. Hope El Nino gets here soon,

Is the question what/why are the flavor (and other) differences between the same mango varieties grown in the Caribbean (which still isn't homogenous) vs grown in Florida?

Or just something more general as a comparison?

My question was just more of a comparison between Mangos from Florida and the Caribbean. I grew up eating Cuban mangos that were stringy and of no particular variety (seedlings). So I wanted to know if there was such a big difference in flavor. When my paisano JF mentioned stringy, spicy (yodo taste) being some of the characteristics of the mangos I was familiar with, I knew exactly what he meant. Thank you and Tropicdude for your input.
