Been putting in an orchard at my new home in northern San Diego county. Would like to grow Canistel, Lucuma, and green sapote. Need suggestions on cultivars and suggestions on nurseries that might have those cultivars. Ross sapote also on list if it does well in this climate.

They should all be able to survive for you. Ong's Nursery in San Diego has Canistel and Ross Sapote.

I got a 'bruce' canistel from Champa Nursery in LA. Been in the ground a couple years now. It produces a good number of fruit, but the fruits remain small. I dont know if this is a variety issue or just tree development requiring more time. The fruits taste good with some moisture in the flesh. However, I am new to these fruits and do not have other points of reference.

I grew Bruce in a prior orchard. Grew well vegetatively but never set fruit for me. Hopefully your fruit will improve as the tree matures.

I got my makawao green sapote from ebay. Sorry, I'm not sure where else to get them locally.

Found a very nice Bruce canistel at a local nursery. Will be in the ground by this weekend. Has been raised outdoor in a 15 gallon very near my property and has flowers. Will keep my eyes open for other canistel varieties, Ross and green Sapote. Ended up getting an Oscar mulberry and a couple of nice papaya trees at the same place. Only Lucuma I can find are young seedlings.

Atemoya nursery in Vista. Easy to find online. Owner is a nice guy and had some interesting plants. Ironicly not many Annona varieties.

Do you like canistel?  I tried a bunch of them and just couldnt get into the flavor.  Ross tasted just like canistwl to me also.  Couldnt tell any difference.

I have not tasted a fresh one, only frozen pulp. That was really tasty. Had a very strong flavor and moist, likely due to added water. It is probably a love it or hate it like durian.

My Bruce canistel. Fruits ripen properly but have only gotten about twice this size.

Nice. Hope mine will set fruit in future years after it settles in. Has flowers now but doubt it will set fruit since it was just planted.

I bought mine as a 7 gallon with flowers and it set one fruit that first year in the ground
