Title: Problems with Musa ae ae

leaves keep turning brown, mainly on the white part of the leaf...the green portions seem unaffected.

is this one of the problems with growing this species? I've heard its finicky to say the least!

I'm wondering if some sports are just prone to doing this?  or if its something else?

my tree is given good indirect sunlight, and rainwater, and moderate amounts of organic fertilizer...I've been babying the tree, and its growing but struggling! 

any advice?

Same thing here Adam , doesn't seem to affect the growth , only not nice looking.....and mine is also shaded part of the day

I hope my tree grows out of this...the big tree I got my sucker from didn't have this problem!

how old/large is your tree??

mine is less than a year old, about 2ft tall.

Adam ---- I have over 16 Ae Ae pups from the 2 spent mats and just about every pup has some burn on the white areas.  Have less of a problem with this because mine are a more resistant strain of Ae.  They will keep growing as long as the leaves remain mostly green.   Very important --- what is the composition of your pot mix?  Also, stick a pH meter in the soil and take a reading.   Also a pH reading of your water.

Make sure they get plenty of fert, especially potassium, and that they get constant moisture. You could also try foliar feeding if soil fert doesn't help.

the soil is a nice acid mix that drains well, comprised of lots of pine bark fines.

Hopefully this is good.

I've got the tree in a greenhouse now, so maybe it will get happier.

I'm going to try some foliage feeding later on this winter as well.

Lots of pine bark fines and good draining.  Perfect.  A good fert mix from Diamond R is 6-3-16 plus minors.  High K for all naners.   And great price  --- like 24 bucks for 50 lbs.
