Title: Growing jackfruit from seeds

I trying to grow jackfruit from the seeds I have. I live in southern part of India.  Do I need to start them indoors and then transplant to ground or I can directly start them in ground outdoor? Its summer now here and the rainy starts from June 1st week.They are of Srilankan Jakcfruit variety if that matters.

I have done it both ways. Direct seeding might be best this time of year.

If you are planting them directly on the ground then that will be best, but if the rain has not started yet then it will be better to put some shade above them to avoid direct afternoon sun.

Thanks guys. I planted 5 seeds in the ground and waiting for them to sprout. I may keep only one healthy plant and pull out the remaining.

I always wait a couple of months or so
ive lost lots of seedlings in their first few months.
it can be gnawed by an animal, killed by insects, stepped on etc...


once its large enough, cut the rest off at the base
and put cardboard over the soil so they dont regrow..
the extra roots dont hurt anything. they eventually rot and become food for the tree.

If you are to get heavy rains, i would use lots of mulch.
