Mango broken branch wound
« on: February 16, 2019, 11:11:59 AM »
A young branch broke off our CC mango during a wind storm a couple weeks back. It was hanging by a thread so I snipped it off. Didn’t do anything to protect the exposed wound. Do you guys think the tree will be ok?
Found this bee digging around in there this morning..

The point of breakage looks OK. But what's that fissure off to the top left? Sorta looks bacterial.

Stress crack from more wind damage? Not sure exactly..
If it is bacterial is there anything I can do to remedy it?

Looks like it’s healing to me. Maybe spray some fungicide on it to be safe??

Wounds like that which aren’t clean cuts sometimes don’t heal as well and are prone to bacterial and fungal infection. If it doesn’t heal you can try treating it with some fungicides.

I had one like that a year ago, water got in it and it started to get infected and white ooze coming out. I sprayed the area with copper fungaside for a few days in a row and it is fine now.

Apply  wax or a wound dressing which contains copper. I'm rant days that cracking can get infected and die back the whole branch.
