Title: Annona cherimoya flowering question
Post by: Mvule101 on September 11, 2019, 01:39:26 PM
Hello

I live in Northern Uganda, about 3 degrees north of the equator and about 3,000 feet above sea level.

My four year old seed grown cherimoya flowered this year. But it did not set fruit. As I am in a warm climate with temperatures rarely/never dropping below the 60s I was doubting if it would set fruit.

If it has flowered does that mean that it will set fruit? Or maybe the weather is too warm? Will I have to pollinate it, or will it self fertilize? I only have one tree unfortunately.

Thank you for any advise.

You have to polinate them by hand.

The fruits from natural pollination of Cherimoya flowers is around 3%.
If you want many fruits you need to hand pollinate.

In my area Cherimoya flowers are in female stage in the morning.
They turn into male stage in the afternoon.
Your tree may be different.

Just some additional comments:
Collect first pollen from one ore more flowers in male status and than take this pollen fr flowers which are in the female status.
Concerning times / status of flowers: My Cherimoya plants come after opening of flowers in the morning first in pre-female-status until for anout 12 p.m - 16 p.m. - than turn into female status and stay there until about 12.pm next day, and turn than in male status until next morning - please note, if in case you do not collect the pollen in time it will fall down after some hours staying in male status.
