I can't speak to upper 20s, but I'm growing this same species (I think) from a different source, and it has handled sustained low temperatures in the mid 30s and generally cold/windy/wet Northern California winters just fine. No idea about actual frost tolerance though.

well guys... its been 3 months and i was just about to give up hope and i noticed today that 2 of my seeds have FINALLY sprouted! hallelujah! any of the rest of you out there had yours sprout yet?

I've had great germination on the seeds I got; planted in March and they're about 4 inches tall now. Seems easy to grown.

wow federico! how did you get yours to grow so fast? i checked again this morning and i have a 3rd coming up... they are all under 1" tall tho. since you and adam got your seeds around the same time and your both in FL i'm wondering what you did that got such fast results

Sometimes you get lucky with the right conditions for a seed. I first germinated in plastic bag with peat moss and vermiculite with a few small holes for air circulation and constant heat mat of 85F. Then as soon as first root and top growth emerged I planted on a deep 4x4x10 pot with potting soil covering about 80% of the seed. Garcinias tend to have long taproots so it's good to give them room to grown deep. In some GHombronianas that I have transplanted at 4 inch tall the tap root is 2-3 times the size of the upper growth.
