Miners always hit the last flush hard. Without a systemic they will make a grown tree look like s____. Will not kill a grown tree. They will hurt new grafts and young seedlings. Rare instances they will severely handicap a young seedlings.

What is it Millet? I have not seen any FD without curved thorns. Cross of something? I was speaking of the pic above this post, not the original posted pic. Im interested. Would love to cultivate something with curved thorns that are not on flying D.

CA is such a vast state. Nearly as long and as the US. There is as such many different terrains and many micro climes all over. Most of them are mild and it seems that pest do not become a huge burden like they do in a warm, wet and hospitable climate like in the South. Its a great environment for eating and breeding. You do not get a few......you get a slew.😁

How did you plant? How and when do you water
Fertilize? Give me a little more info. Lot of citrus put in the ground in Summer suffer some transplant shock. Dependent upon care it can be severe.

That is the way I mix it. 1 oz per inch of tree circumference. If you are unsure call Bayer and talk to them. I have not killed trees before mixing like this.

Mix it the same as for in ground trees. When you put it in the pots....fill till soloution saturates pot. When it starts to come out weep holes in pot move to the next one. Repeat as necessary. It has time spans on pot with directions.

Me too Millet. I did a lot of exploring around the island and can not recall seeing one citrus there. Perhaps my mind was on other things.

My self imposed program is to wash all fruit and produce no matter where it comes from. Its just a good healthy practice. If I did not buy the things I need becaus I was afraid that I would be harmed.....I would soon starve to death.

These two cultivars are like antiquities in a sense. They have been used in various places and for the most part unknown for most of citrus producers. There are so much BETTER rootstocks available now. In your zone, (8b) I would go to poncirus for rootstock. It is easy to come by, disease  resistant, cold hardy as rootstock gets and gets along with lots of soil types. It is compatible with most citrus is easy to graft to. Why would you consider these two odd  ones as rootstock?

I am not sure amout the cold hardiness of citrus mac. It is related to papeda and is thought to have come from the Philippines.  I think that FD and Std poncirus are more cold hardy than Mac. I would group it with Carrizo & Troyer as to hardiness. I do not know of anyone that uses it here. From what I know about it (not a lot) it was used for lemon rootstock by some. I grow lemon on its own roots so have not tried it. Perhaps someone that does use it will have more detailed information. I think it is a receptical for tristeza virus.

I hear you. If it works for you use it. In my small grove (60) trees I do not spray for miners. All the trees are mature and the miners damage is not worth the expense of combating them. I do spray my newly grafted and young trees. All summer I have fought the butterflies....seems like they have been extremely prolific this year.

Yes you are right. Neem oil sprayed every 4 or 5 days will cut out a lot of leaf miner damage. One must be cautious using neem oil in real hot weather. Summer time in my Zone (9) precludes the use of neem oil most of the hot weather. In order to get the right mixture to deter the miners one can come close to damaging his citrus.

If the graft is two weeks old I would let it alone. The sun causes rubber bands to deteriorate rather quickly. It will fall off before it does any damage. I let nature take care of parafilm also. If new growth is being interfered with I remove it....otherwise natural deterioration occurs

Yes. Bayer works on potted plants and will not hurt them. Follow directions on the bottle.

Leaf miners are a constant threat. The best control is Bayer Systemic. It needs to be applied and absorbed by the citrus in order to be effective. Spinosid spray will also help control. I find that Spinosid works best when applied before the pest get inside the leaves. For me the worst damage is done at the last flush of tbe year. Miners will not kill mature trees....even though they make trees look ugly. They will damage a young tree and severely set it back. I recommend Bayer Systemic applied before miners show.

For many years I wound rubber bands and used wax. Stretched the bands very tightly. Now for budding I use buddy tape. Single piece wrapped just tight enough to hold bud in contact. Cleft grafting....parafilm with moderate pressure. Heavy pressure is not necessary and is detrimental in many cases. I never retighten....start over if a problem exist.
