Title: Chaya - Tree Spinach $10 (plus shipping if necessary)
Post by: RodneyS on June 24, 2017, 11:31:38 AM
Popular in Latin America, Chaya is a high protein leafy green.
Very nutritious, it is drought tolerant & low maintenance.
Leaves must be boiled for 3-5 minutes before eating, as they contain hydrocyanic glycosides.
Fish & animals love eating it, too!
Goes dormant during Winter, but grows vigorously in warm weather.

I got Chaya from Rodney 2yrs ago. It is the most vigorous Chaya I've ever had. Highly recommended! D

Thanks, Pokester.  My tilapia love chowing down on boiled chaya.  I assume chickens, quail and other animals will love it, too

Do you think it needs to be boiled before giving to chickens? Thanks

I would believe so, due to the cyanogenic glycosides.  Chopping the leaves up prior to boiling will help dispel the cyanide faster, too.

Hey Rodney, do you have chaya cuttings available this year?
