Spondías purpurea and mombin are not sterile, I have being germinating lots of them for years... Not like I want to, I just throw them at the soil after eating them heh . And I want some seeds Raúl, they look quite different to the ones I'm used to eat around here

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Looking for xoconostle pads

I think some of you may be a little confused about Xoconostle, first, in Mexico it's not really sold as a fruit, we consider it more like a vegetable and it's sought for its sour flesh, we use it to prepare healthy green juices , and to prepare some salsas.

The nutritional and antioxidant properties of xoconostle.

To be fair, that happens everywhere not only in Brazil, and i would blame more to the postal service receiving the seeds, I've ordered seeds many times from Brazil, and so far i have always got my seeds, just once i tried with cuttings and it was confiscated. The countries i never order anything , not even seeds are Italy and France, i tried a few times with both and i never got anything.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Favorit sapote

Without thinking twice... White Zapote is the best, from somebody who has eaten all kind of Chicozapotes, all kind of Black Zapotes, and yeah almost all kind of mamey Zapote, the best tasting of those cant simply compare with the best White Zapote, too bad it spoils real fast, but the creamy very sweet white flesh that melts in your mouth is something out of this world, it is not the overwhelming sweet of mamey zapote that almost get ya sick, or the watery sweet of chico zapote that is a joy but it lacks the creamy and delicate taste.

Not a chance that's spondias purpurea, which is a well known weed around here, same as muntingia calabura, i also wonder what's that Luc has found, while searching around here for eugenia acapulcensis (which according to tropicos.org there should be a few trees located really close to my house in Acapulco downtown)   i happened to find two trees with red berries that nobody seem to know, I'll post pictures someday ;)

14
I don't think this is gonna help to resolve this but i put all my a.spraguei seeds dispersed in big pot with a 2m tall white zapote tree, nearly all of them sprouted, same happened with my a.hayesi ( big pot with an achachairu). I think the big trees' roots help seeds to safely sprout. So far my seedlings are ok.

15
Sure is not licania platypus?, known like meson zapote or zapote cabello according to this
link.

Hi Maryoto, Use a debit card then, i don't really trust credit cards so when i learned i can use Paypal with a debit card, i switched.
Ya, I agree. We all have or don't want what you are offering. And I doubt any of us would go through the hassle of using Western Union.
Thank you David, very valuable information for me.
I will start collecting seeds from the rare fruit of Indonesia.
Actually I had doubts if I use western union for payment.
In Indonesia is rather difficult to make transactions using paypal if don't have a credit card, and I don't have a credit card.

Looks more like this inga spp, not sure if is i. Xalapensis,i.jinicuil or a related inga from souther Mexico/Centro America, here is called Cuajinicuil.

18
Nice you got them ;) not sure if it was fast or slow considering we're so close.

The success of Black Zapote here is in the restaurants/hotels/aguasfrescas industry, when in season you can find in most natural/vegans restaurants black zapote drinks, smoothies, shakes. Mixed with orange or mandarine even lemon, in the streets black zapote aguafresca is easy to find. I was surprised when i found Black Zapotes in Superama ( a Walmart's store with gourmet supplies ) kinda expensive but there it was heh. People with big trees on the outskirts use the leaves too... not sure for what :)

Pd: I know it's used in alcoholic drinks too, never tasted it that way since i don't like alcohol.

Seedless black zapotes. That's something i still have yet to find here in black zapote land :) no named cultivars are known but you can find all sizes, i prefer the regular sized ones to be better, not many seeds, sweeter and not earthy taste, also i remember ones that are almost black  skinned when ripen to be specially good.

Hello, I'm not sure whether i can find black zapote fruits since the last of the year mini season is close to finish, last i saw them in the market were big and goodlooking but that was three weeks ago, anyway I'll try to check again just in case, I'm interested on your pouteria viride seeds, i know they are big so one or two seeds will work for me of course if you still have some left. Greets from the close west.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Multiple crops a year fruits.
« on: October 20, 2013, 08:59:13 PM »
I count Carissa as an everbearing fruit (love it ), and based on what i find locally, Ilama and black zapote have two crops yearly. Forgot to say soursoup is almost everbearing, i always find it no matter the season.

23
Hello Roy, don't you happen to have carissa edulis syn, carissa spinorum? I've read it's from India, with very nutritious fruits, is also called conkerberry the same as carissa lanceolate from Australia, I'm interested in both. Greets.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Ilama ripened on the tree.
« on: October 11, 2013, 03:22:00 PM »
Well, thats the magic of Ilama, it splits with the pulp covered in a thin dry like membrane ( like the inner orange segments are covered with ) besides that bugs don't seem to like them unless they are overripen.

We must have different bugs.  Or perhaps I am not getting to the fruit during the time that that membrane, to which you refer, is still protecting the inner flesh. BTW, my Genova Red did occasionally not split on the tree and still reached good maturity and flavor.

Maybe is the pulp that dries faster exposed to the air but indeed its like it health by itself, about the bugs not even flies seems to like it, neither ants.

Those are small ilamas i bought a few weeks ago, they were half splitted and i just opened wide, notice the dry texture covering the pulp, both inside were quite juicy, the pink one was actually more colored inside.
