I liked my Thai friend's response to the inevitable "what is your favorite fruit" question. He immediately replied: durian...like most Thais do. But then i pointed out that while traveling around in Thailand together he actually ate very little durian. So i asked him again what is his REAL favorite. He then conceded: "my favorite fruits are the fruits that are in season and very cheap to buy!"   ;)

I like your friends answer. Well, more like I get the fruits/nuts,meats, etc. for free, since my parents are vendors at the farmer's market and every vendor seems to be friends with one another. At the end of the market day, most of the vendors like to exchange their produce and when stone fruit or any other fruit is in season, I can get as much of the fruits as I like for free. Oh , and that includes fresh organic grass fed meats, fresh caught seafood, dairy product, fresh baked goods, and anything else that is for sale, that is left over from the day sale. Did I also mention everything, is still in great quality.  ;D ;D ;D :P ::)

1) Peach (fully tree ripened was the best thing I ever ate!)
2) Lychees
3) Mangoes
4) Mandarins and their hybrids
5) Cherries (those "Strawberry" ones are my favorite but I don't know much about them.)

1) durian
2) durian
3) pulasan
4) anonna sp.
5) lychee

I also like mangos, but my problem so far is how variable they can be.

Other than the list, whatever is in season like cherry, peach, watermelon etc is usually what I enjoy, but the top 5 I'd prefer year round if I could!

1. Tyler mango (I have only tasted a few mangos and this one changed my perception of them forever!)
2. Cabelluda ( They may be small but they pack such a delicious smooth flavor.)
3. Gefner atemoya ( I love sweet!)
4. Wampee ( For me it is a difficult flavor to describe, like an orange-grapefruit flavored loquat with a spicy under tone?)
5. Red Hybrid Jaboticaba ( gimme, gimme, gimme! )

As an honorable mention, I purchased a canistel at a vietnamese market in Orlando that was creamy and sweeter than any I had tasted before. All the other canistels I have eaten were too dry, slightly meally and just didnt suite my tongue :)

Why can't I stop laughing!? Watermelon I eat instead of water, too. When I'm sick, when I'm dehydrated, watermelon is my #1!

Don't be like that. You have tried loquats and mamey apples ;D. The you need to try an annona, though. What variety of mamey apple is best? I have a very young plant which I will graft so I don't have to wait eight years to fruit, and want to make sure I'm getting a good one.

Never contributed here, so here it goes in order:
1) Durian. (Must be fresh and from known varieties preferably. No frozen stuff please!)
2) Mangosteen
3) Marang
4) Cherimoya (or any top tier anonna)
5) Mango (still waiting for the one that would blow my mind and move up couple spots :) )

OVERTIME

6.) Rainier cherries  (this variety valued above other cherries in Japan, and sells over $1 each!!)
7.) Pulasan
8.) Chempedak (good varieties)
9.) Abiu
10) Persimmon (must be good variety and perfectly ripe)
11) Watermelon.  Only variety I had in Europe, imported from Ukraine. Never before seen skin pattern. Oh my goodness!! It immediately turned all USA grown watermelons into second class citizens.

I never had a sweet watermelon in Europe, they always taste like water. Which pattern did they have and in which country did you buy it?
I have to say i did not eat watermelon in Europe for 15 years because of the watery taste.

In Thailand the watermelons taste excellent. They sell different quality's though and of course the sweetest ones cost the most. The best ones are called "torpedo" because of its shape.

At least as good and more size: Ukraine - Crimea, Kherson, Donetsk ... Russia - Kuban, Astrakhan, Stavropol ...
Uzbekistan is also excellent.

It has been 2 years since tasting that watermelon, so my memory of skin pattern is a little bit foggy. Anyways I googled popular watermelons grown in Ukraine, and it appears that I found it. 95% sure. Skin pattern is unique and different from all other watermelons as you can see in the link below. Variety is called "Melitopolski". Brix is close to the top of watermelon family. Actually well above what's considered very sweet according to the link. Also it was extra crispy, and even had some flavor profile going usually absent in watermelons. Notice the highest rated has brix of 13. Want to get my hands on that one. Anyways, most of these seeds sold in US. If you want any I can order some and forward it to Thailand.
