How does Myrica faya taste? Is it easy to germinate and grow? Would it do well in Florida?

Thanks

Hi Onur! Myrica faya fruits, are small, black, roundish, and about taste they are very sweet, with a reminiscente flavor of blackberry, but they are quite astringent! Pleople use it here to give some colour to distiled beverages, and to breack a bit the strong taste of alchoool. If you have a big ammount you can also ferment it and make some alchoolic drinks.
As it is very drought resistant and can thrive in almost any kind of soil, it can be a good rootstock, for other Myrica species that are more complicated to grow...
In order to germinate these seeds, a scarification process, should be beneficial, as in nature these seeds are dispersed by birds, so something should happen in it's digestive system, that should be replicated if you want good results, otherwise it could take ages to sprout, as the seed coat is quite hard...

I'm not sure if this species is allowed in Florida.

Hope this helps.

That is a hard question for me to answer; first because I've never been to Florida, so I don't know exactly how the climate is, and how certain species will perform there; and second; taste is something very personal, and each person have different opinions on each fruit taste...

By the posts I read here, I think most species I'm offering for sale, will do fine in Florida, however, a few of them might not be allowed in your state, and some of the seeds that I'm offering are already germinated, wich is another problem to get them passing trough customs...

If I head up to Bundy in the next couple of weekends I could get some reinwardtiana seeds if you want some. Big couple of bushs down the road from my house that are always loaded.

Last week for Araucaria bidwillii, as all the seeds are germinating and if they don't sold until the end of the week I will put them to the ground.

Hey! I'm fine, thank you!
For the moment I have no more seeds of E. luschnathiana. The person that gave me the other seeds, told me that there were some new fruit on the tree, more than one month ago, but since then I had no more news, so don't know if I will be able to get any more seeds this year, or only in 2017.
