Citrus General Discussion / Re: Bug ID
« on: June 06, 2018, 08:38:07 PM »
I forgot to mention that they were black and skinny, and probably 1/4 to 1/2 inch long. I also found them in just starting to open blooms.

Citrus General Discussion / Bug ID
« on: June 06, 2018, 07:27:17 PM »
I had some late blooming citrus trees this year. One several of the blooms, I noticed they had a dark inner circle next to the developing fruitlet. Upon closer inspection, I found that it was several insects (bugs) with their head at the bottom of the fruitlet and their tails pointing outward along with the petals. They looked like part of the flower.  I've done many google searches but have not found anything that looks like them. I did not think to take pictures.  Now I notice darkening around the bottom of the fruit, after bloom fall. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I agree Eyeckr, that's why I bought one at the southeastern citrus expo last fall.  It is now in the ground with several fruitlets already sizing up.

The Cara Caras I pre ordered are supposed to be ready next month.  You may want to go ahead and contact Anna or Amber @ Brite Leaf and place order. Also check to see what rootstock they are on.

Does anybody have a seedling they would be willing to sell? I know it's late for seed. I only want one each....Anybody?

Citrus General Discussion / Satsuma Names

Could someone please explain the difference between Owari, Frost Owari, and Silverhill satsuma trees?

216
Hey, Brian. Thanks for the reply. I will probably wait awhile also, before any more pruning.

I have a question about pruning citrus trees after the initial pruning of damaged wood. I have several freeze damaged trees, with varying degrees of damage, but my Moro tree has starting flushing and growing limbs at every node. Should I trim off half or most of the limbs so that it is not sooo bushy? I wouldn't want people to think I have a ChiaPet in my yard. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Best rootstock for Kishu mandarin

Thanks, Millet for the reply.  I know FD is the usual go to rootstock, but I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with some of the relatively new rootstocks.

Citrus General Discussion / Best rootstock for Kishu mandarin
« on: March 20, 2018, 05:05:36 PM »
I would like to call on the wisdom and experience of this forum to help me choose best rootstock for Kishu Mandarin. I am looking for cold hardiness ( zone 8), quality, and production. I have well draining sandy loam soil in west central Ga....on the fall line. I have protection measures in place for winter. I am fairly new at this, but have made several successful grafts, though I hear Kishu is very hard to get to take. I have Kinkoji, Trifoliata, Flying dragon, Swingle and US852 rootstock to choose from. Any suggestions?
