I came across this, in Cuba in a backyard somebody who plant a mango and chirimoya tree close enough pick this odd fruit from the ground!

Very interesting article but if this was a cross I would have dozens of manmoyas in my yard. My trees are next to each other. Cubans call A. Reticulata cherimoya which is incorrect

I just don't think it's scientifically possible for two different families of fruits to cross pollinate.

Yes Derek, the consistency of pulp also remind me of canistel when I saw it....

The inside of that fruit looks more like Mamey de Santo Domingo (Mammea Americana).  Here is a video of a Mombin tree that produced Mango (in Spanish).

Nice video, the ciruela and the mango tree overlap. the mango falls in the ciruela branch gives the impression that mangos grow on ciruela trees.,In respect to the cuban mango, there are a lot of seedlings in Cuba that are similar to the one in the article. here is one from el mercado libre in La Habana
