Title: off topic, any Cyperus esculentus?
Post by: TravelingFriend on March 19, 2017, 05:40:23 PM: Found "tigernut flour" as a paleo/keto food.

This reminds me of another edible grass like tuber - nut sedge,
And these prairie plants sound ideal for our fields.

How are they for nutrient cycling, it seems to need intense cultivation, but if Cyperus esculentus is left alone is it unable to be used as food until cultivated again?

Id like to grow them anyway or any similar plants, so please pm me if you can share.

Tigernut is very easy to grow (except needs quite alot of water) and is super tasty I love the "nuts" fresh they are crisp and juicy if you dry for a bit it gets much sweeter. A great snack.

one caveat, they are apparently pretty invasive and spread.

Sounds harmless, edible, super nutritious, invasive... Dreamy...

OK, so who has it alive and well?

Please forgive, the other site is a whole different community. If I were garage saling I would not ask here. But being plant, tropical, and edible - justified my transcendence.

I just deleted all of the bots from the vegetable forum.

I grew Chufa for a while. I wanted to make horchata with it, but as my plants were few, my first harvest was small. I'm no longer actively growing it, but I think it's still there in the plot. I guess I'm waiting for a more opportune moment to restart production. They were fairly good, and quite productive.
