Priestly Atemoya
« on: August 26, 2018, 04:15:12 PM »
i picked up a 3g couple weeks ago thinking it was a Lisa.  Anyone have any updates on this fruit/tree?

fruit?
size?
care?

i did do a search, and most around from 2012-2016 and only briefly mention Priestly.  If anyone is currently growing, would you please post pics of the fruit and tree if possible.

thanks!!
getting there...

We have several different Attemoyas.  I love them.  Easy to grow and fruit here.  Good for intercropping with our Mangos as they also do not require watering for us here.  Unlike Sugar Apples which I mostly compost, all the Attemoyas are cherished and get eaten up.  We grow Gefner which I like, produces well here, larger fruits flavor is not as intense as Priestly.  Lisa just never produced well without hand pollination so we do not grow it anymore.  Finally 1 of our Priestly produced a decent amount of fruit.  They are not the biggest Attemoyas but they are still larger and so much better than any SA I have ever tried.  This is a good self pollinating producer here in Florida. The flavor is excellent, meaty, lemony cotton candy, sweet deliciousness. We are growing out all the seeds from these fruits.

Is that a picture of your Priestly?
Strange, ours didn't look anything like that. It looked more like a sugar apple.

I question whether the fruit in the picture is a 'Priestley' which has a smoothish skin bulging out irregularly/misshapen.  And I have never seen a 'Priestley' produce well without hand-pollination.  'Priestley' is much appreciated by many persons who tast it;  I, however, find it strangely medication-tasting, not good.

Here is a different picture.  I guess I can only say it was bought as a Priestly.  I have found that quite often fruit trees are mislabeled or a mistake at identifying is made by myself.  I found with this possibly misidentified priestly that the medicinal taste is in the seedier fruit.  I agree it can be a bit overpowering.  Anyway here it is whatever you want it to be.  I guess iI will call it a 2020 Demeter USA certified FVF Attemoya.  Thanks
