Cecropia fruiting is in full swing
« on: May 13, 2019, 03:29:32 PM »
My Cecropia peltata is full of fruits. Although, the fruits do look weird and for some not appetizing, they are one of my favorites. Very juicy and sweet, remind me eating kiwi.

Does anyone grow other Cecropia species? How are their fruits?

I would like to try it, but can't find anybody selling cuttings and by seed it can be female and male.
Could you sell some cuttings when you prune it?

Thanks!

This tree is monoecious and unfortunately it does not require any pruning. Mostly propagated by air-layerings.

We have them growing wild here. It’s considered a weed here and we cut it down for animal feed and to keep it from falling on our structure haha! I’m not sure what species it is but the fruits are very hard and dry. I hear you can make a flour substitute with it but never tried. I wish we had the gummy bear one you have.
The best time to plant a fruit tree was 20 years ago. The next best time to plant one is now.
