Syzygium ID please?
« on: May 25, 2018, 04:50:36 AM »
This plant has recently started producing fruits.  Unfortunately, I never saw the flowering stage.  I bought it from a nursery where the salesperson simply said rose apple.  Judging by the shape of the fruit being formed, as it is not round, I think I can safely assume it's not Syzygium jambos.  It most likely looks like Syzygium aqueum.  Please help.  Thank you.

Not sure of the variety, but it’s just about to flower. Those are flower buds.👍

:o  Flower buds? :o  And all this time, I was thinking they were the small stage of the fruit. :-[  How long do the buds stay in this stage before flowers open?  It's been more than a month in this stage.

I wouldn’t have thought they’d be in bud stage for that long but I’ve never really taken much notice! I just eat the berries when I see them! The bud on the right, with the white showing should be about to open into a nice, fluffy flower🤞🤞

From the leaves and buds, looks like S.samarangense, water apple.
