yard tour
« on: April 04, 2013, 07:11:56 PM »
First time posting pics of my humble yard. Everything in ground has been in around 1 year or longer. Forgive general weedyness, in process of re mulching and weeding, life been a bit busy the past year and a half. Sorry for the orientation of the pics if sideways no idea how to rotate them on this tablet since it does that automatically in the viewer

Rosigold mango. Lost about 1 doz fruits in this windy spring, 3 left.

Sweetheart lychee

Florida hass avocado. Holding 2 small fruit. Had to chop down a bit of the tree in the background to allow more winter light in.

Ruby supreme guava, potted.

New addition, jaboticaba in a pot. Adam's love of these plants inspired me to pick one up.

Various items in pots, fig - a few varieties, blueberries some not shown citrus.

Rainforest plum seedlings about 6 mo old (thanks oscar!). Some sugar apple as well.

Pickering mango, dripping with fruit. About 5 and a half feet tall and as wide.

Sapodilla, beleive it is a tikal.

Cotton candy berry, jamaican cherry.

Sugar apple coming out of dormancy, green var seedling.

Valencia pride

Nam doc mai. 2nd flower, none set first time.

Not shown - various citrus, acerola, banana, papaya

Nice trees everything looking good. What you fertilizer with?
Grow mainly fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

one of the generic 6-4-6 fert from home depot or lowes, Sunniland "citrus Avocado Mango" type. There's a few brands that are almost identical like that. I'm sure you have seen em around.

I also spray with southern ag micros. I bought some azomite to see what all the fuss was about but have yet to use it.

Has your cotton candy berry tree fruited yet?

oh yes, it shut down over the "cold" months but it produces oodles of berries. You can't really see in the pic but there's hundreds of developing berries that are sure to ripen daily with this warmer spring weather. It was fruiting when I planted it around a year ago and has ever since, and has also triple or quadrupled in size during that time. Impressive trees. My son (18 months) even learned to pick them once he learned how to walk, and knows to get down on low and look up for red berries.

edited to add: I know it's hard to tell from the pic but it's actually around 6 foot tall with a 5-6 foot spread.

I planted it around this time in 2012. It was a 3g and small at that, maybe 2.5 ft tal and not very bushy. I would imagine it would do fine in a pot but may need to be up potted frequently based on its aparent vigor.  I bought one for my mom up in ocala and it is flowering for her in a 3g pot.

Wow nice job, the trees look healthy, you guys will be stuffing yourself with lots of fruit in not time!  Even though you know it is going to happen, it is always nice to see the annonas bud out in spring.

thanks for sharing Colin - very nice trees indeed.  I'm still waiting for the day when i'll be harvesting my homegrown fruits (a fair way away yet, I think).
