Please id this matoa-like fruit
« on: February 04, 2019, 05:33:42 AM »
Hi, bought this fruit at the market of Tamiang Layang in Borneo. Thought it was matoa but several locals who tried it say its not matoa. Any ideas?

Hi,
I can not see any picture. For a identification a picture would be helpful.
Probably you just forgot to add it.
Best Regards,

It's really good place to search fruit in here, i found about 55 species in here.
You should go more deep to find rare fruits.

I'm not really good in identify willughbeia, should look at the flowers.
Unfortunately i found it fruiting not with the flower, i have three willughbeias unidentified  ;D

Same with me. But the common one on Muara Teweh market, is it coriacea or sarawacensis or another one? And i tried to go deeper. Got struck at camp 66 living with the bridge repair team in a hut for 4 days while they waited for the buldozer repair crew😂, then i had to do a visa run🙄

Now im stuck in Putussibau. Boatmen want up to 1000us S for a 100 km trip upriver so i think they just consider it too dangerous now.
Do you have a list of your Muara Teweh fruit? Would be very interesting.

No coriacea in Muara Teweh.
Atleast i haven't found coriacea in Muara Teweh and still hunting it.
It only available in deep wild jungle.

1000 usd is too expensive, maybe just because you are foreigner and have no local friend.

I went to Putussibau last season.
Last month only reached Sanggau then going to West Kalimantan, and now i stay in Muara Teweh.

I listed my seeds in Buy&Sell menu, you can check http://tropicalfruitforum.com/index.php?topic=30732.0
Not including willughbeia elmerii, i got willughbeia elmerii from other province.

Do you know if this Dracontomelon costatum is dioecious or monoecious?  Information online is scarce & seems to be conflicting.

Wow, thats an impressive list. In contrast, most of the fruit i found are small jungle fruit, usually not too tasty.
