What was I thinking.   Back to Mango 101 for me.  Since that is the Donkey Killer,  Sheehan needs to not worry about his Lemon Zest but instead guard that limb 24/7 from Mr Clean.

If it were donkey killer, it would have undoubtedly claimed the life of Sheehan by now

At first glance it looks like Pina Colada.

So thanks to you and Squam we have narrowed it down from Pina Colada and Sweet Tart to Pina Colada and Sweet Tart.  ;D

Thanks Rob. See if you can get a close up of the new buds as I have in the second pic I posted. The pics you posted are too far from the buds so I can't see if the coloration is the same.

Can anyone identify by the shape of the leaf? My tags were washed away, but its really simple. This is either Carrie or Rapoza. Those were the only two we were grafting earlier last year. One leaf is particularly big.

Unfortunately Carrie and Rapoza have very similar leaves as well as growth habits, so its difficult to say from those 2 pictures.

If the tree blooms though you'll be able to tell by the panicles and small fruits. Rapoza's panicles are usually a dark burgundy color and the small fruit will start turning red by pea size, while Carrie produces a more pinkish panicle and the baby fruits won't have the blush.

Mango ID help
« Reply #441 on: December 20, 2015, 03:26:35 AM »
Hoping I would be able to get some mango ID help from some of you mango freaks.

There is a mango tree in a local collection that is much more compact than the others, the labels have been lost on this particular tree. It is in with a bunch of Asian and Indonesian trees.
-Leaves are long and thin with wavy leaf margins
-The tree does not seem to get pruned, has a stump diameter just over a foot, is about 2.4m tall but about 4m across. It has very few strongly vertical branches, has quite a horizontal growth habit.
-The fruits are small, similar in size to an NDM, but have a curved beak and already show a fair bit of blush, (the fruits on my KP will be ready in about 2-3 weeks and have are showing even less blush than these, and the NDMs around here seem to have a more pointed beak and almost no blush)

Probably a million Asian mangos similar to this but the tree seems naturally compact and the blush makes it a little more attractive.

Worth a shot asking, I'll take some more pictures as they get closer to ripening.

Rob

If you have a look at the image supplied earlier by EuroFruit. The shape resembles Naangklaangwan, except for the blush. That said, I once planted a long line of Naamdocmai seedlings and only one in four or five grew to produce the classic shape of the mother. Both fruit and tree shape varied considerably in that line. So much for the reliability of the poly-embryonic mango. The wavy leaf margins are quite prominent on Naamdocmai.
