You're in zone 10b so the UF Best peach doesn't really require any winter chill?  The "100 chill units" isn't necessary?

Good catch. That’s a typo, I’m 10a - corrected

I’m in the 50-110 chill hour area

Okay.  But what do you think about the 100 chill units?  How necessary are they?  Not advisable for 10b?  Also, this peach is classified as non-melting.  Would that translate as not juicy?

Both UF Sun and Tropic Beauty grow like crazy and fruit prolifically in my yard in Coral Springs.

Oh hell no, very juicy.  Just a fantastic peach, my only complaint would be they don't get as big as a vastly inferior ones you'd find at the grocery.  Non melting?  Maybe, but it's close.

The only other nitpicks would be 1. Extremely hard to keep the wildlife from stealing them.  Next year I'm literally going with an electrified chicken wire fence.  I wrapped them in a bird net last year, something just ripped the net apart and got inside, pretty sure only a raccoon is smart enough to do that.  2. They all tend to come ripe about the same time.  I'd love to get another version, later or earlier to extend the season, but no luck so far.

I would *think* that it would likely fruit in your zone, but I guess it would depend on the winter.  What about that adding that hormone that makes trees bloom and set fruit (I can't remember the name of it)?

You need to check out Dave Wilson's site...track down some Zaiger peaches, nectarines and interspecifics.  Trust me, that UF peach would be bbq wood..

Will be tough finding the super low chill stuff but anything you can would be worth it.

You apparently haven’t had a UF Best peach.  Come over here next June and you’ll change your mind.

I'm sure the climate in North Florida would support Zaiger peaches, but here in deep S FL it's probably UF peaches or nothing.  UF has done a great job with their program.  Go Gators!  Let's hope the football team starts to look good.

There are some Zaiger that may work but not get released to consumers (my friend is growing them and quality is amazing).  Their white oeaches and nectarines truly are flavor bombs and blow away the yellow ones.

As to the footvall team, I am afraid a blow up is going to be needed to right tge ship (like UM has done).  Too much lingering garbage being inherited.   Need to clean house of it all, once and for all.

generally, you don't. we cover a lot with organza bags when still small and the fruit flies still get 25 - 50% of the peaches. I suppose I could add fruit fly traps and other measures, though nothing is going to be super effective.

For your mangoes, did you graft them all onto one tree, or do you have each mango variety as a separate tree? Of the listed mangoes, which do you enjoy the most?

I apologize to everyone, I was not getting notifications.

I have not had any problems with fruit flies.  Hope I didn't just jinx myself.  Based on the replies, they may be more of an issue on the east coast??  Damn, I hope they don't cause problems here.

No - I have not, but since (I think you've said) they're not released to the public, I'm not sure how I could have.  How about you manage to get me a couple (I've been trying damned hard to find a nectarine I could grow).  I'd be happy to pay for them, participate in any research, etc....  After which, you can stop by and eat all the damned peaches you want LOL.

Please - seriously - notify me when and where I can get one or more.  I will drive over and pick them up gladly.  Peaches may be my all time favorite.

Where did you get the soursop trees and fruit?  Where did you get the achacha?

The soursop fruit I got a few at Whole Foods, but mostly at Miamifruit.org  The trees I got at different places, I have 3 of them.  2 of them I got at the Walmart on 951 just south of Davis.  I hate to give up my secret, but they often get good trees from Pine Island Nursery there.  But - the best place is fruitscapes on Pine Island, always try there first, call Steve.  The Achacha I just plain got lucky, but I constantly stop at any place that carries fruit trees on the off chance that they'll have something rare that I want.  But, I found it at top tropicals in Lehigh.  I do not really like them, but you can get lucky once in a while.  It's best to go in person, because they don't like to ship their bigger trees, and many of them have some type of infestation, at least that's what I've seen.  When I do get a tree there, I first treat it (neem oil), then quarantine it for a few weeks.  They had some lemon drop mangosteen seedlings a while ago that I regret passing up.

BTW, did you ask me about a cocoa tree a while back?   I do have one I'd be willing to part with.

I have 2.25 acres, but less than one acre planted so far.  Seeing how many of the mangoes I've either bought, or plan on buying are due to your reviews, you're welcome to stop by any time.  We won't tell the wife that you're responsible for me spending several hundred dollars on fruit trees.

Each is a separate tree, most of them went into the ground this year as Irma killed many of my trees.  Most will take 2-3 years before I'll allow them to fruit.  Large, mature mangoes are harder to find than you'd think, at least on this coast.

I still want a LZ and an OS.  I know where I can get 3 gallon trees.  If anyone knows where I can buy larger, please share.
