South Florida is anything fruiting now..?
« on: December 16, 2020, 10:21:16 PM »
I walk around in my garden and this time of the year I don’t have anything to enjoy. Not starfruit yet. Just isolated lemon drop and peanut butter. Does anybody is harvesting something for Christmas here in south Florida?

Starfruit, bananas, and a few Maha Chanok mangoes in my yard this week. Peanut butter fruit were bearing but I got rid of them. I have seen jackfruit, avocado, pommelo, Silas Woods sapodilla, and black sapote ripe in my area this week. I expect some people have ripe guavas this time of year.

Several kari carambola every day.

Occasional lemon drop and barbados cherry.

Some ripe and green papaya.

A few jabos, but the cardinals beat me to them.

Some of the jujubes are almost ready.

Kumquats ripening.

Lots of silas woods saps ripening.

Sorrel pods coming in.

Quite a few peppers.

Moringa is shooting out pod clusters.

My Choquette Avocado is over glowing and been delicious.  Yes Choquettes taste great as long as you wait till December to start eating them.
Blessed be the man who plants a tree knowing he will never live to enjoy it's fruit or shade.

No, Coquette does not taste good no matter what month its picked (but I guess if one likes Oro Negro, they would probably also like Choquette and Monroe).  Its a lesser quality Monroe, which is nothing great either in my opinion.

Rob,
Oro Negro, Monroe and Choquette are pretty good at least in SW Florida, but we get little rain after September compared to SE Florida and I am sure the fruit is less watery with better flavor here.
Tell us what avocados for South Florida you DO like..... Early , mid, and late season.

My favorite Florida grown are Dupius, Day, Wurtz, Lula, Catalina and Nishikawa.  Brogdon can be very good at times, especially for early season.  I dont rate quality of taste based on seed or fruit size.

Have some jackfruit on the tree. A few bunches of bananas. Avocado tree is still holding fruit. Some sapodilla and June plums and coconuts. A few sugar apples and a little mulberry tree has some fruit along with jujube.
Don’t rush, take time and enjoy life and food.

I found a NA Dai sugar apple that fell on the ground this morning? there are about 6
late late ones this year on the tree? I have never gotten a sugar apple this late and I really didn't
think it would soften up. It is soft and should be ready to taste in 1-2 days. I don't expect much
the trees have been dormant for a while. I also have about 2 million Thai jujubes starting to ripen now
on two trees.

I'm not in South Florida but we harvested the last of the June plum Saturday and Maid juice still collecting guavas. Putting them in the freezer for juice later.

This is my first crop of this variety. It was tagged Ruby Supreme but it looks white to me. Very sweet I have no idea what variety it is but it came from South Florida?
