Just picked this mango up. anyone know anything about it?
-
It’s Seacrest. They decided to change the name.
-
thanks, been looking for a seacrest so its a win.
-
How good is Triple Sec/Seacrest? Is it a top-tier mango? What popular mango does it resemble in flavor?
-
It is a top 10 mango for me. Others do not agree. Try for yourself.
-
Easily top tier for me. I like it better than I like Sweet Tart. :)
-
Triple sec is a good new name for Seacrest which sounded bland and anonymous. btw--Anyone know what a Zill 40-14 is?? - I also see #78 on the pot.
Triple sec is described as an orange liqueur. Does this mango have an orange taste?
wikipedia:
Triple sec, (meaning "Triple distilled") originally Curaçao triple sec, is a strong, sweet and colorless orange flavored liqueur. It is a variety of Curaçao liqueur, an orange-flavoured liqueur made from the dried peels of bitter and sweet orange.

40-14 is piña colada .

Thanks. That solves that mystery. Planted that PC 5-6 years back.

Hows the fruit? I ordered pina colada from FL a while back and they sent coconut cream. Not sure if it was a mistake or coconut cream is the improved version? Sorry to derail the seacrest thread although it sounds like the naming question is answered.

They are different mangos. Pina colada when ripened fully is top tier, amazing eating experience. Only drawback I can think of is the smallish fruit size and doesn't have a thin seed but the flavor makes you forget about that. I've heard some growers report they are hard to keep clean.

PC and Coco Cream are not related...not that I know. CC might work out better for you anyway. Larger than PC so more "sellable" for better money with your upcoming orchard.
zzzzzzzzzz

Aroma resembles Triple Sec, not necesssarily the flavor, so I'm told.

Thanks. The description sounds enticing, naming it after an orange liqueur.

It’s Seacrest. They decided to change the name.
The names are getting worse and worse. Seacrest was an excellent name.
-
I agree 100%. Names should not be changed after release.

I was thinking the same. Triple sec isnt even a decent booze.
-
Who changed the name ?????? Was it the original grower or a random nursery ????? I for one are not into name changes after the fact....... Mike
-
Aaron, did the label at least say "(AKA <something>)"? When I bought my Lemon Zest, it was labeled with Lemon Zest (AKA 27-1).
-
I bought 2 from Fruitscapes in 1 gal. About 40 had had just been delivered from Zill's. They had a yellow tag that said Triple sec, but inside the pot was a small square that said Seacrest. Fruitscapes confirmed it was Seacrest.

Press release:
"Zill High Performing Mangoes Ltd. predicts off the charts sales this spring planting season for our new Triple Sec mango. The product of years of patient R&D, this mango is sure to excite even the dullest of Velveeta cheese embalmed palates. A patent is pending."
-
Got nice seacrest 3gals earlier this year. Haven't tasted them but have heard good things.
-
Where is Bullie........ He would know the story behind the name change.... Rob please give us the info ....... Mike
-
Gary Zill changed the name. He also told me they’re renaming ‘Marlys’ to “All Summer” or “Summer-long” or something like that.

I'm happy on behalf of Marlys. Now she can wait for a better mango to carry her name.
-
It kinda makes sense from a marketing perspective. It'll just have two names now amongst the cognoscenti, same as PPK/Lemon Meringue. Worst name change was Young to Tebow! Did the guy even want a mango named after him??
-
maybe every mango should have 2 or 3 names.
-

I keep thinking SEC (South Eastern Conference) when I see Sec or the word... secretary.
Name change for Sales?
Liqueur.... Triple..... = possible sales
But for hog wild sales... sounds like a possible typo..... The c should probably be a xxx 8)
-
Sounds more of a marketing strategy to appeal more to the public. I don’t like name changes either (like Fairchild Ruby/J12/Super Julie) but I understand why whether it be because of confusion of similarities in names or to better market other varieties.
I’m still going to call it Seacrest 😆 just like I call “Super Julie” J12 still.. & taste is definitely different for each person.. some have it in there top 10, I personally would put it in the pile of just another okay mango that would hold me over if there weren’t other varieties of my top favorites available.

I remember a Julie but never got a chance to find out if she was super... But Super Julie is a name to remember.
I think most buyers like female names over male and also on their Alexa, google voice, and various GPS.
For a guys name to be favorable it usually needs to be well known and liked by many (no one likes everyone). Thus Tebow is a far far far better name than Young as both sound like Guys names and only Tebow is well known & liked by many in the public... Sorry, but it's a fact with the general lay population... especially in Florida...
For Sales... Female Names > Male Names (except superstars, performers, politicians, athletes, etc. and Young is not even close to Tebow name recognition quality).
Clinton or Trump Mango... Both would sell & be easy to remember; many have said Trump is very easy to remember...... The Presidential line of Mangos... Perhaps even a Presidential Pardon list if it keeps growing and gets more publicity... lol ... A who got fired list... & on & on we go.... lol
Put Clinton Mango at one end of yard & Trump Mango at other... Other Dem mangos around Clinton & Repub named mangos around Trump in the yard. Walk the yard & tell people we are crossing (or switching) from Republican to Democratic grounds etc. etc.... Let people try both mangos & other Dems & Repubs. and then ask which tasted better Clinton or Trump? just amused..... lol ... (A joke son, I say a Joke...I would NOT ask that question if mangos were named as described)
I liked the mango name Venus and I'm not sure if picked for planets or Greek Gods/Goddesses. I would suggest using the popular mythology Greek Gods/Goddesses as it would be educational as often required reading in school and unlikely offensive. It would also be easy to look over the Greek Gods/Goddesses list to jog the memory & remember the mango name vs. the long long list of possible human names. Link::: https://greekgodsandgoddesses.net/gods/
https://greekgodsandgoddesses.net/goddesses/
https://greekgodsandgoddesses.net/heroes/
https://greekgodsandgoddesses.net/creatures/
The creatures would also be cool names Ex. Cyclopes, Pegasus, Sirens, Minotaur, Medusa, etc. etc. etc.

Opinions? For ease of remembering mango names, this might be the best solution if mangos were named off a well known or easily accessed list.
