‘Day’ Avocado and Oro Negro
« on: May 30, 2020, 09:26:32 PM »
I just purchased these two avos (the day is mine and my bud’s is the oro). I’m just wondering a little info on them by owners? (Flavor, texture, size of fruit, vigor, etc..) I can’t seem to find anything online about these guys!! Not sure where else to look. I also plan to keep these in containers as I’m Zone 5, I have lots of experience with citrus, so I’m hoping some of this is similar to that in containers. I have a 10 gallon and a 15 gallon container ready for the two.

Any input is really appreciated!

Thank you John! Definitely more info than I could find anywhere else. I’m happy both of them are B type.. I heard they’re better producing on their own.

Also I forgot to mention that I have tasted Oro Negro, and it has a very rich, hard-boiled-egg flavor and very dense flesh.  A very large seed, as well.  My tree didn't grow or produce so well, and I never figured out why.  Good luck with yours!

After having the tree for some years now I can say it produces 40/50% of what a Monroe would. I also agree with John on the flavor.

That's a lot less fruit, Carlos!  And I know you prefer the flavor of Monroe to Oro Negro.  Oily avocados in a salad are great.  In guacamole, too.  But there's a lot to be said for eating a WI avocado as a breakfast fruit along with other fruits or as a side dish or condiment with other meals.

So I’ll account for much less as my avocados will be in containers. Thanks for all the info guys!
