Thieves...!!
« on: June 20, 2012, 11:28:56 PM »
I can't believe this...

Someone stole all of my Glenn mangoes. Picked the last 60 of them right off of my tree in the back yard. The neighbors would never do something as dastardly as this.

The only people who know I have fruit trees in the back yard are the grass cutters....

But I'm not blaming anybody since I have zero proof.

So sorry to hear that. It is amazing how little respect some people have for others.

I need to invent exploding ink mangoes.. ;)

Ray, buy paint ball gun, turn pressure way up, freeze balls, wait in the shadows at night in all black.  Justice served semi automatically cold.

Sorry about your mangos, i know that bad feeling.  :'( Battery operated motion detector cameras cost around $100. They're usually sold for bird watching, but work great for thief watching also. Then at least you know who did it and can prove it.

Sorry to hear about your story Ray.

Have already caught several thieves in West palm Beach and another group were arrested just before they could hit up an orchard I harvest in Jupiter.

New sign suggestion:

"Dear Thieves,

This year, random mangos have been injected with strychnine (rat poison).  I know which ones.  Do you?

Happy dining,

Karma, it will bite them back...

Sorry, Ray. I guess it's too late to loan you my attack Bichonoodle.

Speaking of dogs, I checked with an attorney, and God wouldn't be allowed to call it "heaven" if our dogs weren't there.

Seem like an epidemic of that stuff going on this year, with the abudance of all these farmers markets it seems its a lot easier to find places to sell fresh fruit, while certainly I love the idea of farmers markets, since they develop interest in tropical fruit,I guess thieves just have more outlets now to sell their booty. We leave our dogs out at night to deter any idiots,so they better have a 50ft fruit picker to get us,unfortunately no system is fool proof. Thieves will always find a way or at least try.

The lawn service co. workers did this to my friend, so I would say your suspicions are pretty accurate.  I know it's too late, but I'd definitely talk to the supervisor or owner of the company.

Sorry to hear that jabomano.  If we are not allowed to "dispose" of fruit thieves as we wish, then they should at least get a sentence equal to the time it takes to grow the fruit!

I have plans to install surveillance cameras to monitor all around my property. It will be nice to see what goes on when I am not there!

Ray,
Sorry about that!  My Glenn is next to the street and so far so good!
Ray, give me a call, come over, and get some Glenn mangoes.

I vote for inside job, too. I had an issue with the landscapers in my neighborhood. I had a talk with the owner and told him to spread the word to workers that I now had video cameras and my husband is a big, scary, gun toting man with a badge.....hum...nothing more disappeared from the yard...so that convinced me it was them.

I don't uses a lawn service but my neighbors do. I have given them mangoes for goodwill gesture. So far I have had minimal theft. I have plastic signs out saying "PRIVATE PROPERTY"

Jabo---- you need a bunch of no trespassing signs saying violators will be prosecuted. I got mine on ebay. but they just say "private property"

My sympathies Jabo. This stinks!!!
Just thinking but>>>>>
Do you have a dog you can chain to a stake near your tree?
Start some beehives near your trees. They can be moved around as necessary
See if you can find a beekeeper who would like to place hives on your property during the fruit months

Damn that sucks bad! Wondering about what happens when I get mangoes in my Front Yard  :blank:

I am thinking about putting cameras as well, with the economy the way it is, thefts and forced entries are on the rise. I am in a cul-de-sec so its easy to monitor one side coming in, and I got no homes on three sides so its easy to put cameras all around and monitor.

People like to think that thefts and burglaries are on the rise when they are in fact not. Burglaries are pretty much on par with what they've been like for the past 20 years and theft is actually on a decline the past decade.

I anticipated you were going to say that and I had actually looked up CA's stats prior to making my first post and you are also wrong about that according to what I was able to find.

I wouldn't look at the stats as very accurate. I know many people who would not bother reporting a break in and stolen property worth less then $5000. To them its not worth the time and dealing with the police. This is especially true, in poorer income areas. I believe petty theft is indeed on the rise.

I am going by my personal observation vs stats. per stats the unemployment %age is down too. Anyway, it could be area specific, but within 35 miles of Orange County and Inland Empire area we hear more and more of these stories as compared to say 3-5 years ago. looks like more desperate people.
