much like G. intermedia, but less tart, more pulp, and a slightly different aftertaste...I really enjoy them...my tree is going buckwild now, I might get a good crop this winter if conditions are right...it seems like every flower sets a fruit, and now I see about 100 flowers coming

most people don't realize the skin is edible too.

Looks tasty
Does that garcinia need more than one tree to set fruit.
I have one tree and its flowered plenty, but never set fruit yet.

thanks Micah,

apparently the one I have doesn't need two trees...much like G. intermedia...virtually all the flowers are androgynous, I don't recall seeing any male flowers

maybe you have a different variety, or species?

look alike? .I am suprised to see mulberrys this time of the year. Good looking plate.

Hi Adam,

Glad to see that you finally got fruits on your Garcinia gardneriana. I have to agree, it has a very nice taste, better than achachariu.

Thank you my dear friends: Amigbro, and Tomas,

I forgot to mention, I'm going to graft a batch of these onto Garcinia intermedia next year.

I'd like to have at least a half dozen of these fruiting in pots.

It will be interesting to see how the grafted trees grow, when compared to the mother tree...and also I'm curious to see how long they take to fruit from grafting.

Would the garcinia be a candidate for planting out in the ground?

my zone is marginal, but could work if i protect it and prune it.

i think the kill temp is right around 24-26F....but the tree can get large if it's in the ground...

i think they can be kept in a pot for about 10yrs before you need something larger than a 25 gal

What is the benefit of grafting onto intermedia?  IIRC, Chris Rollins said that if garcinias are grafted with scions (budwood) from the top of the tree, it will grow vertically, but if taken from the sides of the tree, it will only grow laterally.

The only benefit is, I have lots of intermedia seedlings (which are easier to find)...I can't think of a closer match for compatibility.

thanks Oscar.

I'm hoping to add some new info, I see a few threads with outdated names, and descriptions, and lots of mistakes that I made.  I don't keep a journal, but I guess this forum is the closest thing.
