M. coronata restinga
« on: January 20, 2017, 02:36:30 PM »
A smaller ripe fruit from one of my coronata restinga's. It appears that just about every flower sets into fruit which is pretty amazing for a first time bloomer and especially the rarer jaboticabas which in my experience don't normally set with the first blooming. You can clearly see the crown at the apex of the fruit.

This is a short video.

I have a four foot tree that is really flushing allot lately.
I can't wait
I think it is a 2012 I got from FFF
I wish I would have got 2 or 3

Can't tell you definitively. I knocked this fruit off prematurely today so I really can't say but what I tasted was sweet.

Are you going to sell seeds?

Yes. I'll be selling the seeds but they'll be expensive due to the rarity. And the precocity. Seeds were planted on December 8 of 2012 and they flowered in December of 2016.  About 30 days from flower opening until mature fruit.

$7 per seed plus shipping. 2 seed minimum. I know Australia is about $14 shipping so I suppose Hungary is about the same.

These photos where taken yesterday of one of my coronata resting trees.

Yes. They all grew from seeds I planted on December 8, 2012. Including the one you see in the photo.

I might feed them 2 or 3 times a year. Any well balanced slow release fertilizer is fine. The key is constant, soaking water. Every day.

No idea. I never checked and never asked. I just water. I do have bubblers on my bearing jaboticaba's and they're set to come on 4 times a week for 7 minutes.

Congratulations on the fruiting jaboticaba. How is the taste compared to other jaboticabas? This species seems to hold lots of potential to be grown due to its early bearing habit and resistance

Fruits are sweet with a thick skin. Taste is similar to other jabuticbaba's. The beauty of the coronata restinga is that it fruits from seed in 4 years and it doesn't seem affected at all by city water. No brown tips at all on the leaves. Could potentially give the sabara a run for top spot. Commercial growers should love it because of it's quick fruiting and good taste.

Still......the number one jabuticaba as far as taste is concerned is Otto Amnderson beyond a doubt.
